Party Leader Ian Rogers discusses "The Death of Local Politics" in the wake of this year's local elections

Comment – The Death of Local Politics – Coventry Citizens Party 13th May 2026 by Ian Rogers This year’s local election results were brutal not just for Labour and Conservatives but also small local parties like the Coventry Citizens Party. We are very surprised and disappointed by this year's local election results after years of campaigning on local issues and increasing our support

✅ Bablake - Karen Wilson - 183 (1%)
✅ Binley and Willenhall - Cameron Baxter - 355 (3%)
✅ Woodlands - Ian Rogers - 250 (2%)
✅ Wyken - Gary Cooper - 209 (1%)

Unfortunately, we cannot compete with national politics and presidential style elections where voters aren't thinking about local issues

Sadly, we have decided to deregister the party and we won't be standing candidates in any future elections

We would like to thank every Coventry citizen who has supported us over the past 7 years and we wish the city the best of luck

Ian Rogers - Party Leader
Cameron Baxter - Second Officer

Petition: Change Local Ward Names in West Coventry – Coventry Citizens Party 24/03/2026

🗳️ There are 18 electoral wards (voting areas) in Coventry which are meant to represent local communities and reflect local history.

🌲 Woodlands Ward (which covers Eastern Green, Mount Nod and Tile Hill North) no longer contains any of the historical woodlands it was named after due to recent boundary changes.

🏘️ Tile Hill is actually split across two different wards while the newly named Tile Hill & Canley Ward does not even contain Tile Hill District Centre (Jardine Crescent).

🗄️ The Boundary Commission has said it cannot review the boundary changes made in Coventry but the council can make its own changes to local ward names.

🏛️ Every council seat is up for election following the boundary changes in Coventry which means there's no better time to talk about changing local ward names.

📉 Turnout at local elections in Coventry is one of the lowest in the country while many residents don’t know which ward they live in or the names of their local councillors.

📋 We've organised a petition and come up with two new names for both Woodlands and Tile Hill & Canley wards.
