As the weather turns wetter, it's a great time to start thinking ahead.

A water butt is a simple way to make the most of the rain that falls on our roofs each year. By collecting and storing rainwater now, you'll have a free supply on hand for watering your garden, pots and planters when the drier weather returns.

It's a small change that can make a real difference, helping to reduce demand on treated water supplies while keeping gardens green and thriving through the summer months.

Whether you're an experienced gardener, growing your own vegetables, or simply looking for ways to be a little more water-wise, every drop saved helps.

HallowsFest CIC is set to transform The Great Western Hotel into a hub of live music, performance and creativity this weekend, 30 and 31 October with .

With live bands, circus acts, food and drink, and tickets costing just £10 for adults (with under 16s free), there's plenty to enjoy over Halloween weekend.

Taunton Town Council is proud to support Hallowsfest through grant funding as part of its commitment to local arts, culture and community events.

🌺 The Poppy Appeal Has Launched in Taunton! 🌺

On Saturday, the Mayor of Taunton attended the launch of the Poppy Appeal, marking the start of this year’s period of Remembrance. ❤️

🌺 Why wear a poppy?
Inspired by the poppies of the First World War, the red poppy is a symbol of Remembrance, hope and support for our Armed Forces community.

❤️ How should you wear it?
Wearing a poppy is a personal choice. Many choose to wear it on the left lapel, close to the heart, but this is entirely optional.

🛍️ Where to get your poppy?
Our local RBL Poppy Shop is now open on Fore Street in Taunton Town Centre! Every donation helps support serving personnel, veterans and their families.

Join us for the Rights of the River Tone Celebration and Charter Signing at The Museum of Somerset and Goodland Gardens.

Celebrate our local river with the Mayor, the River Tone Group and the community. Enjoy live music from The Fitzwarren Collective CIC, nature walks, face painting with (Sparkles Face And Body Art, rock painting and art on display from GoCreate Taunton, while learning more about the Rights of the River Tone Charter.

Everyone will then have the opportunity to sign the Charter granting the River Tone legal protections; weather permitting we will take a short walk to Goodland Gardens and sign it by the river.

Storm damage update - The recent strong winds have caused some damage around Taunton, including a fallen tree in Victoria Park and branches down on Taunton Green, our teams are on site and dealing with these.

Sadly, our giant poppy on the Market House was also damaged by the winds and has cracked. We’ve taken it down for safety and are looking into the options for repair.

We know how much the poppy means to our community at this time of year and will share an update when we know more. Thank you for your understanding.

Summer feels like a distant memory with this weather! You may have noticed the bunting has come down around town as we make way for our Christmas lights. ✨

They’ll soon be going up, and we’ll have more news to share about our wonderful Christmas tree and all the festive events coming to Taunton. There’s lots to look forward to! 🎄

How is your council tax spent? We believe you should be able to see how decisions about your money are made.

Over the coming weeks, each Taunton Town Council committee will meet to discuss its budget for the year ahead. These proposals will then go to our Finance and Governance Committee before the final budget is approved by Full Council on 12 January 2027.

Our timeline shows when each committee will meet and discuss its plans.

We are proud to support the message behind this event that takes place this Sunday. 💪🏼

It reflects our ongoing commitment through our White Ribbon work, standing alongside others in our community to challenge violence against women and girls and help make a safer place for everyone.

As the darker evenings draw in, women shouldn’t have to plan their lives around fear. Safety is something everyone has a part to play in creating.

Close to half of the 2250 plus entrants in Taunton Half Marathon 2027 are female

This event is coming up on Sunday 25th October for anyone interested.
