On Friday 16th October, local MP Olly Glover joined Mayor of Wantage, Cllr Iain Cameron, and others on the new Alfred Flier BP1 shuttle bus to help raise awareness of this important new transport link.

Connecting Wantage, Grove and Grove Business Park, the service will help improve local connectivity and access to employment opportunities across the area.

The service has been made possible thanks to partnership working and support from local organisations.

Recently, Deputy Mayor Chris Walters and Cllr Jenny Hannaby represented Wantage Town Council at King Alfred’s Careers Fair.

The event was a great opportunity to meet students, have some interesting conversations and share information about the work of the Town Council and the role it plays in the local community.

Students had the chance to find out more about local government, the services provided by the council and the different opportunities available within the sector.

Thank you to King Alfred’s for inviting us to be part of the event!

Update on our car parks
We previously issued the news that new parking ticket machines are being installed in all 13 of our car parks in Abingdon, Faringdon and Wantage.

We have updated information about the installation. Next week (28 September to 6 October) we are anticipating minor disruptions to the parking payment system as the machines are being installed and commissioned.

For a short period at each car park, while engineers get the machines up and running, drivers will be unable to pay for parking and therefore will not need to pay.

Signs will be displayed at the car parks by the tariff boards indicating the short period when there will be no need to pay. If the sign is not there you should pay as usual.

You may see parking staff who will be on hand to advise during the installation. Other parking rules still apply: Blue badge holders will still be required to display their blue badges. Vehicles must still be parked within the marked bays. Only electric vehicles should be parked in bays with EV chargers.

Once the installation is complete, the machines will be able to accept cash payments as well as contactless (bank card or Apple pay or Google pay) – and drivers can pay using the PayByPhone app.

Oxford's traffic filters trial starts today.

You can still drive to all parts of Oxford, but if your car doesn’t have a permit, you may need to use a different route.

There is no longer an option to pay the £5 congestion charge.

Permits are available for many groups, including Oxfordshire residents, Blue Badge holders, community health and care workers, and mobile traders.

Traffic filters are operating at:

✳️ Marston Ferry Road and Hollow Way - Monday to Saturday - At peak times between 7am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm

✳️ Hythe Bridge Street, St Cross Road, St Clement’s and Thames Street - Monday to Sunday - 7am to 7pm

Vapes and electricals don't belong in your bin.
Putting vapes, batteries or small electrical items in your household or recycling bin can cause dangerous fires in collection vehicles and recycling facilities.
Instead, bag them up separately or recycle them at a suitable collection point.
Over the coming weeks, our crews will be placing reminder stickers on wheelie bins across the district to help spread the message.
Let's work together to keep our crews safe.
