REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY PARADE - HALTON VILLAGE

We thought it would be useful to clarify the situation regarding the Remembrance Sunday parade that used to take place in Halton Village but hasn't for the last few years.

Our Halton Castle Councillor, Captain John Davies, has been working hard behind the scenes with Halton Borough Council (HBC), Cheshire Police and Halton Royal British Legion (HRBL) to try to reinstate this important event.

Unfortunately, despite exploring multiple alternative solutions, he has been unable to cut through the red tape surrounding such an event.

Bureaucracy has won on this occasion, but we are determined to resolve this in time for November 2027.

It is important to make clear that the blame does not lie specifically with HBC or Cheshire Police for HRBL being unable to hold the parade.

It is a complex situation (far too complex in our view) that ultimately boils down to money and who would be held liable should an accident occur.

Remembrance Sunday is an important occasion for our community, and we believe Halton Village deserves to see this tradition restored.

We will continue working towards making that happen.

A TRULY WONDERFUL COMMUNITY EVENT AT ST MARY'S CHURCH, WEST BANK, WIDNES

Today we had the pleasure of attending the Poppy Cascade launch at St Mary's Church in West Bank, Widnes, and what a truly fantastic event it was!

The photographs really do speak for themselves, but even they can’t fully capture the incredible amount of hard work, dedication and love that has gone into creating these beautiful displays.

Every single poppy has been lovingly handmade, with people of all ages, young and old alike, coming together to create something truly special.

From the magnificent cascade of poppies flowing down the church tower to the beautiful displays inside the church and around its grounds, the attention to detail is remarkable.

What makes this even more special is the sense of community behind it all. So many people have generously given their time, skills and effort, working together to create a fitting and heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women who served, sacrificed and, in so many cases, gave their lives for our country.

It is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

This beautiful display is not only a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but also a reminder of why remembrance matters so much.

Freedom is only one generation away from extinction. The freedoms we enjoy today were hard won, and we must never take them for granted. It is our responsibility to ensure that future generations understand the sacrifices made by those who came before us, and why their courage and service must never be forgotten.

A huge thank you and congratulations to absolutely everyone involved in bringing this wonderful project to life. You should all be incredibly proud of what you have achieved.

West Bank, you have done yourselves proud.

Lest We Forget.

Following on from Labour’s rejection this week of Cllr Captain John Davies’ appointment as Armed Forces Champion, we thought it worth reviewing how our local MPs voted on the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill.

This is a Bill that will put British service personnel who served in Northern Ireland at risk of prosecution. It’s one of the most egregious Bills ever to come before Parliament and, in our view, says everything you need to know about what Labour thinks of our armed forces and our country.

Derek Twigg MP (Labour, Widnes & Halewood) voted FOR the Bill, whilst Sarah Pochin MP (Reform UK, Runcorn & Helsby) voted AGAINST.

We hope members of the armed forces remember this when they come to cast their vote.

Our Beechwood & Heath by-election candidate, Neil Thornton, has taken a quick break from canvassing to record this video.

Neil has lived in the ward all his life and has already made a positive and visible impact on his local community.

As a member of the committee that helped raise funds for the Todger Jones statue, Neil has demonstrated his commitment to preserving local heritage and making a real difference in the community he calls home.

For Neil and the wider Reform UK Halton team, Putting Halton People First isn't just a slogan. It's about taking pride in our communities, listening to residents and getting things done.

To the 5,000+ veterans and the Armed Forces community in Halton: Halton Labour do not care about you.

Last night, we tried on your behalf to appoint Cllr John Davies as the Armed Forces Champion.

Cllr Davies is probably one of the most qualified people in the country to take up this role.

NOT ONE LABOUR COUNCILLOR VOTED FOR HIM!

They left the role with a councillor who has never served and who has very little understanding of the lived experience of the Armed Forces community.

That's fine. He can keep the seat warm until May, when Reform take control and make this a truly Armed Forces-friendly local authority.

Veterans! Vote Reform at every opportunity!

Reform Councillors Siân Davidson and Jack Raftree led the debate about the compulsory purchase of people’s homes in The Uplands in Halton Lea.

We weren’t able to fully debate the merits, as the Council discovered that its own constitution was illegal, being inconsistent with the Local Government Act 2000.

The proposal for The Uplands will result in a reduction in social housing.

There are 2,500 registered and active people looking for homes on Property Pool.

• 350+ on Band A, with a 40-week waiting list.
• 72 weeks on Band B.
• Several years on Band C.

Yet here we are, with a Labour Council getting behind a reduction in social housing stock and prepared to use compulsory purchase powers to do so.

We will take the debate forward to the emergency Policy and Performance Board that is being convened.

We’re supportive of regeneration that creates an infill scheme that allows existing residents to remain in their homes, including, and especially, those who currently rent their home.

Reform will always put Halton People First. 🩵

The full Council debated a motion of no confidence in Labour this evening.

Cllr Mackie responded to the motion on behalf of Reform, listing why the people of Halton have no confidence in a Labour Party that has driven Halton to the brink of bankruptcy.

Halton Labour’s catalogue of errors includes a near bankrupt Council, service failures, children’s services in special measures, an illegal constitution, a bonanza of HMOs, loss of green spaces, a dried-up pond, desecrating cemeteries, and lack of hope for the people of the borough.

It’s no wonder that there is no confidence in Halton Labour.

LABOUR'S PLANNING CHANGES - ANOTHER BLOW TO LOCAL DEMOCRACY

New national planning rules introduced by the Labour government will see more planning applications decided by council officers rather than elected councillors.

Changes to the rules governing which applications go before planning committees could significantly reduce the opportunity for local democratic scrutiny.

This raises serious concerns about how controversial developments, including proposals affecting Green Belt land and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), will be considered and challenged.

Reform UK Halton believes local residents deserve a voice in decisions that affect their homes, neighbourhoods and communities.

We strongly oppose any changes that weaken democratic accountability, reduce transparency or make it harder for residents to have their concerns properly considered.

We will be urging Halton Council to formally oppose these changes, challenge the government over the loss of local democratic accountability, and explore every lawful option available to protect residents' voices.

Decisions affecting Halton should be accountable to the people of Halton, not simply made for the convenience of central government.

NATIONAL ISSUES ARE LOCAL ISSUES

Our communities have been damaged by asylum hotels and HMOs, we now have an Iraqi asylum seeker charged with r**e here in Runcorn.

Now we know we have British males who get charged with r**e, but it is a special kind of national self harm to import dangerous men, and it’s mostly men.

Only Reform has the solution and courage to address this issue, and put British people first, by ending the asylum scam once and for all.

The individual has been charged, not convicted, and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Cheshire Police charge Iraqi national Hoshyar Mustafa, 30, with two counts of r**e over an alleged Runcorn attack reported on Christmas Day 2022; he was remanded.
