The capacity building continues next Saturday, June 27, with a Leadership Development Workshop facilitated by Mr. Eddie Frederick.

These capacity-building opportunities form part of the Division of Youth’s Community Leadership Development Programme, which is designed to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become effective leaders within their communities.

Highlights from the National Youth Parliament Sitting held on June 9, 2026, where our National Youth Parliamentarians debated the critical national issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

During the debate, youth leaders put forward several recommendations, including:
✅ Increased GBV awareness and prevention programmes
✅ The integration of consent education and gender equality into the school curriculum
✅ Mandatory specialized training for police officers, judicial officers, and frontline service providers to ensure GBV cases are handled with sensitivity, fairness, and a survivor-centred approach
✅ A comprehensive review of existing laws governing self-defence tools, with consideration given to expanding the list of approved self-defence items, including pepper spray, accompanied by appropriate safeguards against misuse and clear penalties for unlawful possession or abuse

These recommendations formed part of a resolution presented by the Leader of Government Business during the National Youth Parliament Sitting.
