PRESIDENT COMMISSIONS 153 OFFICER CADETS INTO THE GHANA ARMED FORCES

The President of the Republic of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned 153 officer cadets of Regular Career Course (RCC) 61 into the Ghana Armed Forces. He commissioned the officer cadets during the 2022 Graduation Parade on Friday August 12, 2022, at the Ghana Military Academy (GMA), Teshie.

The Reviewing Officer in his address urged the graduands to be guided by the principles of duty; service, sacrifice, and selflessness in safeguarding the interest of the state as they protect the territorial integrity of the nation. He entreated them to put into practice the qualities of good leadership instilled in them at the Academy by living exemplary lives and ensuring the men and women under their command do the same.

He said government had approved the expansion of GAF to cater for emerging and future security threats in the sub-region through the acquisition of requisite equipment, logistics, infrastructural development and increase in manpower.

In terms of manpower expansion, he said government since 2021 had embarked on an accelerated nationwide recruitment and training to churn out a minimum of about 4000 officers and soldiers annually till 2024 in order to beef up the strength of the Armed Forces to optimal levels.

According to him, the construction of 832 accommodation units and ongoing construction of 300 additional units for the Armed Forces under the Military Housing Project, currently under various levels of completion, is meant to vigorously expand accommodation to cater for the increase in personnel.

He said as part of efforts to enhance operational capabilities, combat efficiency and logistic capacity of the Armed Forces to deal with both internal and external threats from extremists and terrorist groups, 4 additional bases, specialized units and brigades had been created with the acquisition of requisite equipment to deal with the threats.

He reiterated government’s continuous efforts to equip the Navy with offshore patrol vessels and fast patrol boats to enhance counter piracy operations and other maritime threats and also protect the Nation’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The graduating officer cadets consisted of 111 from the Ghana Army, 23 from the Navy and 19 from the Air Force with 36 females and 117 males.

The Academic Cane, awarded to the officer cadet adjudged best in Academic Studies of RCC 61 went to JUO Aggrey Benedict Ekow Adjaye. JUO Asare Kofi Adom was awarded the Military Cane for the officer cadet adjudged the best in Military Studies whiles the Sword of Honour, awarded to the best all-round Cadet of RCC 61, went to SUO Appiah-Hanson Emmanuel.
