The Air Force Recruit Training School (AFRTS) in Takoradi has held an Inter-company Steeplechase competition for the Basic Infantry Training Course (BITC) 2-21.
The objective of the steeplechase exercise which was on Thursday 23 December, 2021 was to test the endurance of the recruits on different terrains, their cooperation as a unit and their ability to traverse obstacles after a long tiring run.
In his remarks, the Guest of Honour for the event, Officer Commanding Flying Wing, Air Force Base โ€“Takoradi, Group Captain KM Atiemo noted that, the recruit training package was designed to produce among others, a well-trained, highly motivated, discipline, physically and mentally tough soldier capable of performing any task assigned
He congratulated the winning company for their display of team work, cooperation and determination and commended the Training Officer and his able Instructors for a good orgof the event.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas Oppong-Pepprah has commissioned a newly constructed Officersโ€™ accommodation block and renovated the Junior Ranks Mess at 2 Infantry Battalion at Apremdo in Takoradi on Tuesday 30 November, 2021.
This project among others supports High Commandโ€™s drive to improve on the accommodation and welfare state of the Armed Forces.
In his address, COAS, who was the Guest of Honour was impressed with the various initiatives and infrastructural developments that had transformed and improved on the general conditions in the barracks. He commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command Brigadier General Michael Amoah-Ayisi for giving his Commanding Officers (COs) the needed support and encouragement.
He further congratulated the Commanding Officer (CO) of 2BN, Lt Col Abass Atuluk and his staff for the vision and the fortitude with which they planned and executed these projects within a limited period.

The 76th United Nations (UN) Day celebration was held at the forecourt of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Sunday, 24 October 2021.

It was under the theme โ€œUnited Nations and Ghana: Working together for a Sustainable and Inclusive Society towards recovery in a post COVID- 19 Eraโ€. The theme reaffirmed the UNโ€™s shared commitment to stay on the path towards sustainable development for all, as they strived to recover from the impact of COVID-19.

United Nations Organization was founded in 1945 after the Second World War. 51 countries pledged their commitment to maintaining international peace and security by developing friendly relations among nations in order to promote social progress, better living standards and human rights.

Honourable Charles Abani, UN Resident Coordinator in his speech said Ghana is a proud and active member of the United Nations and commended the government of Ghana for its continued support even in this difficult time of the COVID- 19 pandemic. According to him, the theme underscored the need for greater urgency and ambition to end the pandemic , accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals with renewed hope as the UN remained committed to supporting Ghana achieve its mission.

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Honourable Kwaku Ampratum- Sarpong on behalf of Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said Ghana in partnership with the UN and other development partners had made significant progress in laying the foundation for a transformational, peaceful and resilient society to guarantee equitable opportunities for all her people.

โ€œGhana will bring to bear the work of the Security Council to restore stability, peace and security in troubled areas. Ghana will also use her tenure on the UN Security Council to seek collaboration between the UN and the regional organizationโ€ he said.

He added that Ghana was duty bound to demonstrate resilience and be conscious of the fact that without sustained and collaborative efforts, desires and aspirations for a better world for all would remain a dream.

Safety and Security Officer of Peace Corps, Mrs Jessy Wilt paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama at his office in Burma Camp on Thursday, 21 October, 2021.

The visit was to request for professional advice in a five-year strategic risk assessment plan to enable its members perform their voluntary duties in a free and safe environment and also to show gratitude to the Military High Command for the support it has continuously offered the organisation since its inception.

The CDS noted that Ghana had been a peaceful country but was not immune to terrorist attacks, hence, measures had been put in place to increase troops strength in the northern part of the country since possible threats were imminent in that enclave. However, he promised to assist the organization in its humanitarian service.

On Wednesday, October 20 2021 Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical Company Limited located at Spintex has supported 37 Military Hospital with drugs worth Seventy-five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 75,000.00) at the forecourt of the hospitalโ€™s Headquarters in Accra.

Presenting the drugs to the hospital, Mr Joshua Affram, a Pharmacist with company said the aim for the donation was to support the malaria free campaign at the hospital.

The Commander of the hospital, Brig Gen Nii Adjah Obodai, thanked the team and entreated individuals and cooperate bodies to emulate the kind gesture of Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical Company.

Present during the donation was the Acting Commanding Officer of the hospital, Col Robert Seth Attoh and other Officers of the Formation.

A farewell parade has been held to mark the transfer of authority between the Outgoing Forces Sergeant Major (FSM), Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Barker Ramous and the Incoming FSM, CWO Addo Daniel on Monday, 11 October 2021 at the forecourt of Burma Hall in Burma Camp, Accra.

The short but colourful pulling out ceremony was officially to bid farewell to CWO Barker Ramous after 31years of distinguished service to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and usher in CWO Addo Daniel as the 6th FSM, who before his appointment was the Sergeant Major of the Army.

In his welcome address, the Director General Personnel and Administration (DGPA), Air Commodore Michael Appiah-Agyekum commended the outgoing FSM for his inspiring leadership in championing a good relationship between Officers and soldiers during his turner.

CWO Barker giving his remarks thanked all Ranks and Civilian employees for their support and expressed appreciation to the Military High Command for believing in him and allowing him to serve. He urged all to support CWO Addo for the betterment of GAF.

In a Citation read by the Chief of Staff (COS) at the General Headquarters, Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh and presented by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama praised the outgoing FSM for his enormous contribution to GAF and Ghana at large.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah has commissioned some projects at the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS), Daboya on Tuesday 5 October, 2021.The projects included a 100 man capacity female dormitory, 12 squad sheds, lecture sheds, lecture hall, a laboratory, officersโ€™ mess and the Commanding Officerโ€™s accommodation.

Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah in his remarks stated that the commissioning of these projects were in consonance with the vision of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) High Command to provide the relevant training infrastructure for personnel. He added that the school would be expected to grow into a modern training institution capable of conducting multi-faceted training programmes for GAF.

Maj Gen Oppong-Peprah appreciated the efforts of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama and his immense support in the construction of the COโ€™s accommodation and renovation of the schoolโ€™s Mess. He also commended the construction company who worked under pressure to complete the projects on time without sacrificing quality for speed.

The Acting Commanding Officer of the school, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Nii Armah Quaye noted that ASOTS as well as other units of the Ghana Army were benefitting immensely from the vision and several intervention programmes by COAS.

He expressed his appreciation to COAS for addressing the challenges the school faced. He assured COAS that the facilities would be properly maintained and used for their intended purpose.

Present at the ceremony were the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson, the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brig Gen Moses Mohammed Aryee, Director General Logisitics, Brig Gen Osei-Owusu, Commander Army Special Operations Brigade, Brig Gen Essien and other senior officers as well as some local chiefs and people of the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has organised a mini athletics championship competition for security service and civilian athletes on Friday, 1October 2021 at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

The Deputy Director Army Training, Major Agalga in an interaction with AFnews said, the event was geared towards fostering esprit de corps amongst security services and the civilian counterpart as well as promoting the growth of athletics in the country.

The event saw a number of athletic teams competing in different disciplines. The teams included Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Athletic team, Ghana Police Service team, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons, Ghana Customs Division, University of Ghana Athletic team, University of Education, University of Cape Coast, and Athletic teams from all the 16 regions of Ghana.

In his opening remarks, the Director General Ghana National Sports Authority, Professor Daniel Twumasi who was the Guest of Honour lauded GAF for her immense contribution to the sustainability of sports activities in the country.

Professor Twumasi said the performance of Ghana in the 2019 African Athletics competition in Morocco was outstanding and that it has placed Ghana at the 15 position on the medal table, which he added has given Ghana the bragging right to organize the first of its kind African games in the future.

As part of measures to ensure operational efficiency in the Ghana Army, Headquarters Southern Command has conducted Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI) for units under its Command from 20 to 30 September 2021, ahead of a scheduled ORI by the Army Headquarters slated for October 2021.

The General Officer Commanding Southern Command, Brig Gen Michael Ayisi Amoah said the exercise was to inspect Unit arms and ammunition, assess troops on barracks security drills, office management, personnel administration and inspection of Unit records and archives. This, he added would help to identify flaws and setbacks to guide higher headquarters on future policies and plans.

The units that took part in the conduct of the ORI include, 2 Infantry Battalion, 1 Infantry Battalion, HQ Southern Command Camp, 48 Engineer Regiment, 66 Artillery Regiment, 5 Infantry Battalion and 1 Field Workshop.

The GOC was accompanied by the Command Operations Officer, Col Kingsley Kwabena Kessie Affrifah and some Staff Officers together with facilitators from the General Headquarters Medical, Records, Defence Intelligence, Communications, Military Police and Ordnance.

The Minister for Defence and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bimbila constituency, Honourable Dominic Nitiwul has commissioned a 24 room capacity hostel for the Defense Intelligence Training Centre (DITC); named โ€˜The Martin Wagner Hostelโ€™ on Thursday, 30 September 2021 at the General Headquarters in Burma Camp, Accra.

The Minister in his keynote address recounted and lauded the former German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency (HE) Christoph Retziaff. He said, on 19 December 2017, he (Hon Nitiwul) had the privilege with the then Ambassador to commission the Defence Intelligence Complex and Defense Intelligence Training Centre for the DI. This was the dawn of another fruitful relationship between the DI and the German Armed Forces Technical Assistance Group (GAFTAG), he added.

According to him, for the past 5 years the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have enjoyed model technical support from the German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Daniel Krull and GAFTAG programmes to other units including 48 Engineering Regiment, Engineer Training School, Base Workshop, Electrical Mechanical, Engineering Technical Training School and Dog Academy.

He reiterated that the Memorandum of Understanding which was signed as part of the arrangements between the Federal Ministry of Defense of Germany and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Ghana have seen millions of dollars in support.

In his welcome address the Acting Chief of the Defence Intelligence, Brigadier General Abraham Nsiah Yeboah thanked the Guest of Honor for honoring the invitation.

According to him the project was classified into three phases and the hostel formed the first phase which was solely sponsored by the Government of Germany through GAFTAG. He further noted that, the second phase would include a bar, gym, ablution, kitchen and a 2 dining facilities, the third phase also includes 5 lecture room, 4 breakout room, 120 seater auditorium, computer laboratory and three offices
