The Attorney-General is urging the Supreme Court to dismiss Wesley Girls' claim that it cannot be sued, arguing that the school has the legal capacity to be sued. This comes amid a lawsuit filed by private legal practitioner Shafic Osman, alleging that the school's policies violate Muslim students constitutional rights to practice their faith. The school, founded and operated by the Methodist Church, is accused of restricting students from fasting during Ramadan, and observing other Islamic practices.
The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on April 21, 2026, which will likely clarify the boundaries of religious expression in Ghanaian educational institutions ¹ ².
