Mayor of Accra engages street hawkers ahead of Tuesday’s major decongestion exercise — vows cleaner city, fairer market policies under 24-hour economy plan

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has directly engaged street hawkers in parts of the Central Business District (CBD) today, ahead of a major decongestion exercise slated to begin on Tuesday, May 20.

, who was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, on Saturday, walked through key areas in the metropolis to appeal for cooperation and explain new citywide trading reforms.

The engagement covered Kinbu Road, Kojo Thompson Road, Sempe Road, Swanzy Road, Guggisberg Avenue, Market Street, Okaishie Road, Kantamanto Street, Nsawam Road, Paa Grant Street, as well as other areas earmarked for clearance in the first phase of the exercise.

Addressing the hawkers and traders, said the operation was a necessity, not an act of aggression, stressing that the exercise aimed to clean Accra and make it a model capital for the sub-region.

Please permit me to field in my opinion on some pressing issues.

We can’t afford to have comrades avail themselves to man leadership roles without any track records
communicating their efforts prior to the attainment of this triumphant return.

As this achievement is weighing heavily on the NDC’s administration led by President John Dramani Mahama due to unemployment rate in the country and the mess created by the past government.
Accountability is key.

Let’s pray 🙏 our Hardworking leadership appoint someone who has the capacity to manage affairs,great lobbying skills,has great experience in public services and ready to contain coercion when they arise.
Our newly formed government may suffer but we shall overcome .
Accra Metropolitan Assembly needs someone who is goal oriented.

An appeal with all humility from Hardworking youth of the Accra Metro to the appointment committee ,to look into matters and appoint someone from Ashiedu Keteke because in the last NDC ‘administration, we had a Mayor who is now the Mp for “Ablekuman South “(Hon. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuye),second is our immediate past Mayor from “Okaikwei”(Hon.Kwartsoo Sackey)
Ashiedu keteke deserves a fair share of the National cake .
