The Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops Dr. Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan had paid a one-day familiarization tour to the Fievie Rice Plantation and Milling site on the Adidome road in the Volta Region. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) adopts the value chain approach to implement agriculture policies and plans which provides direction on the market orientation of the Agriculture sector. The Agribusiness Unit was created to play a facilitating role between MoFA and the private sector to contribute to the realization of this strategy. In line with MoFAs role in supporting agribusinesses, the Agribusiness Unit has championed the course of building the capacity of agribusinesses as well as bringing the challenges of farmers to the higher levels for policy decision making. Agribusiness Unit Participates in Agro Food West Africa Exhibition 13/05/2016

The Agribusiness Unit (ABU) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture participated in the third edition of the Agro food fair exhibition in Accra. The exhibition which was held at the Accra International Conference Center was opened on the 1st of December, and closed on the 3rd of December, 2015. The primary motive for participating in the fair was to provide technical information to investors and potential investors interested in the agricultural sector and also to equip agribusinesses with the necessary knowledge and skills. The Agribusiness Unit (ABU) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture participated in a Business Fair organized by Osu and Mamprobi Deaneries of the Catholic Church. This programme was organized to celebrate the World Youth Programme 2016 and the overarching objective was to expose the youth to the importance of investment. As one of the functions of the Agribusiness Unit is to provide support to small and medium agribusinesses in the country, series of trainings were conducted to some selected agribusinesses in Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti regions from August, 2015 to October, 2015. The Veterinary Services Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), organized a short ceremony to pay various amounts of compensation packages to 25 poultry farmers whose farms were destroyed as a result of the outbreak of Avian Influenza popularly known as bird flu in the country. Seven Corporate Institutions have made presentations of both cash and kind to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture at a colourful ceremony at the forecourt of the Ministry as part of their contributions towards supporting the National Farmer’s Day.
