The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully returned 105 foreign nationals to their countries of origin after an intelligence-led operation in Asankragwa rescued 112 individuals suspected of being trafficked into Ghana.

The raid, carried out on May 20, 2026, by the Asankragwa Sector Command under Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Kwabena Adjei, targeted premises believed to be hosting persons engaged in commercial s*x activities. Initial screening revealed the group comprised 110 Nigerians, one Beninese, and one Cameroonian — all female, aged between 12 and 38. They were later transferred to a holding center in the Greater Accra Region for further processing.

Subsequent investigations by GIS’s Anti Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons (AHSTIP) unit identified seven suspects and confirmed 105 victims. Working closely with the relevant embassies and community representatives, GIS facilitated the safe return of the victims to their home countries. The seven suspects remain under investigation and could face prosecution if found culpable.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration Samuel Basintale Amadu urged foreign nationals to comply with Ghana’s immigration and criminal laws.

Ghana has introduced a visa-free entry for all African passport holders, supported by a new E-Visa system. The platform enables online applications, secure payments, and email authorizations, while integrating with international security databases. The reform also automates work and residence permits, reduces bureaucracy, and enhances airport security with advanced scanners. President Mahama framed the move as part of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, promoting free movement and continental integration.

The Paga Sector Command, in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) through the Navrongo Municipal Office, engaged 400 selected students of Navrongo Senior High School in a peacebuilding outreach programme following the recent rise in student riots in some senior high schools within the Municipality.

The outreach was organised under the Prevention of Violent Extremism Through Social Accountability (PoVETSA) project, which is being implemented by CRS in collaboration with the National Peace Council (NPC) and the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC), with funding support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
