The Officer Commanding ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia Ghana Company (ECOMIG GHANCOY) 8 Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Abraham Dery has handed over command to Officer Commanding ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle on Friday 30 May 2025 at the Barra Camp in The Gambia.

The ceremony was marked by the handing over of the Baton of Authority to the Incoming Officer Commanding followed by the signing of the handing and taking over notes.

In this remarks, Lt Col Dery thanked the almighty God for a successful tour. He also expressed his appreciation to the personnel of GHANCOY 8 for their unwavering support and dedication during the tour.

The OC GHANCOY 9, Lt Col Agbemafle, on his part, urged personnel of his GHANCOY to be professional, disciplined, dedicated and committed to every task assigned to them. He further thanked the Military high command for the opportunity given him.

The Acting Commandant, Ghana Military Academy, Brigadier General Cornelius Kobla Lithur, has paid a working visit to the Naval Training Command to interact with the Naval Cadets of Regular Cadet Course Intake 64, currently undergoing communication training.

He introduced the new Chief Instructor at the Naval Faculty, Naval Captain Victor Fianko and outlined key military regulations guiding cadet conduct, underscoring the relevance of the carefully designed training package. He emphasised discipline, resilience and active participation in all activities.

He toured the “Ship-in-a-Box” and Lill-May Didriksen Simulation Centre, commended SMOPS instructors for their professionalism, and encouraged cadets to value teamwork, integrity, and personal growth as essential qualities for effective military leadership.

The Army Special Operations Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Richard Mensah has paid operational visits to the 69 Airborne Force in Tamale and the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya as part of familiarisation of the Units under his command.

Brigadier General Mensah received detailed briefings on the training programmes, logistics and operational structure as well as the needs of both units, highlighting contributions to internal security operations and rapid response in support of national defence, amid regional threats of terrorism.

He also inspected key facilities, interacted with troops, and applauded their professionalism and commitment. He also paid a courtesy call on Northern Command GOC Brig Gen Frank Nartey Tei and was accompanied by senior staff officers.

The 1 Garrison Commander and Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi has made a familiarisation tour of 1 Infantry Battalion Michel Camp Tema, and also assessed the operations of 851 Explosive Ordinance Disposal Regiment and Base Ammunition Depot.

The visit aimed to foster unity, enhance operational readiness, and officially introduce himself to troops and also gain first-hand information about operations of the unit.
He received detailed briefings on administration, logistics, welfare and challenges of the unit.

Commodore Asiedu-Larbi inspected numerous facilities, including the 1 Medical Resource Station and commended personnel for their professionalism, stressing the importance of Navy-Army collaboration. He assured the commanders that he would relay identified challenges to higher command.

The Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 12 of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has participated in the United Nations Peacekeepers Day held at their headquarters in Bentiu under the theme “Peace Begins With Me”.

In his speech, Acting Governor of Unity State, Honourable Gatwech Bipol, emphasised the significance of honouring the efforts of individuals committed to promoting global peace. He recognised the essential role of the United Nations and partner nations in ensuring peace and security within South Sudan.

He further linked peace to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, stressing continued collaboration with UNMISS on peacekeeping and infrastructure initiatives. The event concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony led by Honourable Gatwech Bipol and Madam Sireh Jabang, symbolising respect and remembrance.

The Commandant Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Commodore Maxwell Arhen, has paid familiarization visits to the School of Ordnance and the School of Education to inspect their facilities and also interact with personnel to acquire firsthand information on their operations.

At the School of Ordnance, Lieutenant Colonel Edna Kyerewaa Antwi briefed Commodore Arhen on training activities. He inspected facilities, including classrooms and workshops and commended personnel for their dedication, expressing satisfaction with the school's operations and standards.

On his itinerary to the School of Education, Lieutenant Colonel Hilda Asiedu briefed him on various challenges. He toured key facilities and reaffirmed GAF’s commitment to quality training, highlighting the schools' vital role in personnel development.

The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has commemorated the 2025 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honour the memories of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Speaking under the theme “The Future of Peacekeeping”, the Acting Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Robert Affram, paid special tribute to all peacekeepers and those who have demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to peace and security.

He congratulated the Chief Superintendent of Police and UNPOL Chief Training Officer, Zainab Gbla of Sierra Leone and Squadron Leader Sharon Mwinsote Syme of Ghana for winning the prestigious 2025 Woman Police Officer and UN Gender Advocate of the Year, respectively.

The Breath of Hope Foundation, in partnership with RikAir Company Limited has donated medical items worth Forty-Eight Thousand Five Hundred Cedis (GH¢48,500) to Duala and Arakan Medical Centres in Burma Camp as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.

Donating the items, which include oxygen cylinders, regulators, concentrators, and other essential medical equipment, Sales Manager Mr Frank Ayi noted the initiative reflects dedication to societal wellbeing, emphasising the move would make meaningful impact in emergencies and situations requiring oxygen support.

The Station Medical Officer, Dr Ewura Adjoa Nunoo received the items on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services. She expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that the donation would enhance medical response efforts and improve care for patients in urgent need of oxygen.

The family of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama has held a wreath-laying ceremony at the Osu Cemetery to commemorate the 8th anniversary of his death.

The officiant, Rev Kwame Felix Forfoe said the family gathered not only to remember a beloved son but also to celebrate his selfless service to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the nation. He added that Major Mahama’s legacy of dedication and sacrifice remains deeply cherished and he would not be forgotten.

Captain Denis Mahama Adams (Rtd), father of the late Major Mahama, expressed heartfelt appreciation to GAF and the people of Ghana for their unwavering support over the years. He emphasised the family’s commitment to ensuring that late Major Mahama’s legacy continues to inspire the nation. He condemned the act of mob justice describing it as unacceptable and urged Ghanaians to uphold the rule of law.

The 77th International Day of the United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers has been commemorated with a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Forecourt of the State House, to honour the memories of those who lost their lives in the pursuit of global peace.

Speaking on the theme "The Future of Peacekeeping: Strengthening Partnership and Multilateralism in Ghana and Beyond”, the Acting UN Resident Coordinator, His Excellency Osama Makkawi Khogali, highlighted the significant impact of peacekeeping and the importance of building partnerships to address climate change and illegal exploitation of natural resources.

The Minister for Communication at the Presidency, Hon Kwakye Ofosu, expressed satisfaction with the government's collaboration with the UN to address unrest in various parts of the world. He noted that the day provided an opportunity to reaffirm the UN's common agenda.

He congratulated Maj Gen Anita Asmah for her appointment as the first Ghanaian Female Force Commander for the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in Syria.

The Army Combat Training School has held a closing ceremony for a 14-week Advanced Mortar Course (AMC), Advanced Medium Machine Gun Course (AMMGC) and Advanced Infantry Platoon Weapons Course (AIPWC) 1-25, designed to enhance the tactical proficiency of participants.

The course attracted 90 participants, out of which 27 were trained on the AIPWC, 42 on Mortar and 30 on the AMMGC. Other subjects featured include Tactics, Map Reading, Voice Procedure, Weapon Handling, Fire Control, Range Management and Method of Instruction.

At the end of the course, Lance Corporal Mensah Christabel, Leading Seaman Botchway Ebenezer and Staff Sergeant Abladzie Edem Loius took the first positions in the Advanced Mortar, the Advanced Medium Machine Gun and the Advanced Infantry Platoon Weapons Courses respectively.
