As part of Director, PIAA’sworking visit to the Upper West Region, he toured the factory of an agro-processing company, Kedan Ltd at Tumu. This company employs several hundreds of young men and women in the value chain. The company produces a wide range of food products made from maize and soya beans.

This is in line with the vision of H.E John Dramani Mahama to create the necessary agro-economic environment for such agro industries to grow and thrive. Agro industrialization remains the surest path for job creation and accelerated economic growth.

On behalf of the President, Dr. Otokunor extended the fullest assurances of government to support the company expand its production capacity in order to meaningfully contribute to the 24hr Economy Initiative.

As part of the preparatory works towards the roll-out of the Bui Agro Economic Enclave Initiative as part of the Bui City Project, we had a 3-day study tour of the Bui Power acquisition area for the technical and agronomic assessment of the area.

The area has the potential for commercial aquaculture, over 300,000ha capacity for various crop production to feed multiple agro-industrial options available in the enclave.

This partnership between PIAA and Bui Power Authority is a Presidential Initiative targeted at expanding the agro-production, agribusiness and agro-industrialization as a tool for economic transformation and job creation.

Earlier this week, the Director, PIAA Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, visited the Badu Grain Storage site which is currently hosting the NAFCO grain warehouse in the Tain District of the Bono Region as part of the working visits. The facility which was built in the 80’s provides cleaning, drying and storage services for small holder farmers in the district and its environs. It requires maintenance to make it more efficient.

Limited grain processing and storage facilities is the major source of the marketing challenge confronting both large scale and smallholder farmers across the country.

It is the vision of the President John Dramani Mahama to improve the nations food buffer systems by introducing modern digitally controlled storage facilities across the country, as means of organizing the grains supply chain system and providing expanded markets for our farmers.

As part of a nationwide working visit to key agricultural sites, the Director of PIAA, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor made a stop at the Ekyi Amanfrom Irrigation Project at Afram Plains an emerging flagship initiative being developed by the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) to support year-round farming.

The project, currently about 75% complete, features modern, electric-powered centre-pivot irrigation systems designed to cover over 250 hectares of farmland. Once operational, it is expected to significantly boost agricultural productivity, particularly in tomato cultivation, helping to stabilize supply and reduce seasonal shortages.

This initiative aligns with the broader vision of H.E President John Dramani Mahama to promote commercial agriculture and address persistent supply chain challenges within Ghana’s agro-value chain key steps toward advancing agro-industrialization.

Over the weekend, the Director, PIAA, Dr. Otokunor paid a working visit to Nobi Agriculture, located at Sikasu Dortopon in the Afram Plains of Ghana’s Eastern Region a remarkable testament to vision, innovation, and large-scale agricultural investment.

Founded by the venerable Awuah Darko, Nobi Agriculture spans an impressive 21,000-acre tract of land, uniquely surrounded by water, with over 7,000 acres dedicated to rice cultivation. The project is supported by robust irrigation infrastructure, including a 23-acre reservoir with a storage capacity of 1.2 million cubic metres of water, and an exceptional pump rate of over 1,500 cubic metres per minute.

The facility also boasts a modern rice mill capable of processing 3 tonnes per hour, complemented by silos with a storage capacity of 1,300 metric tonnes. Notably, NOBI hosts one of the largest reservoirs in the country, positioning it as a key driver of agricultural transformation.

This is, without doubt, a massive and forward-thinking investment. Dr. Otokunor commended Mr. Awuah Darko for his vision and commitment, emphasizing that such an initiative deserves strong government support to enhance sustainability and create meaningful employment opportunities for Ghanaians.
