The Civil Service Council has extended its series of familiarization visits to the Ministry of Defence, to bridge the gap between administrative leadership and frontline public service staff. The Council led by its Chairman, Lawrence Kannae PhD met with the Deputy Defence Minister, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi with the Ministry’s top management level staff and some representatives of the junior staff.
The objective of the visit is to afford the Council have first-hand insight on operations and appreciate the key challenges and opportunities within the Service. The visit also provided a platform to strengthen collaboration and enhance effective delivery of service.
Dr Kannae stated that he was impressed by the high level of discipline maintained by civil servants at the Ministry, urging them to remain disciplined to achieve the Ministry’s goals.
Honourable Brogya Genfi commended the staff’s work output. He further emphasised that the Ministry is currently focused on channelling its human resources and logistics toward driving national development.

A delegation from the National Ambulance Service board led by the CEO of the National Ambulance Service, Dr George Kofi Owusu officially briefed the Deputy Defence Minister, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi, regarding acquisition of ambulances for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). Dr George Kofi Owusu met with the Deputy Minister, the Chief Director and other directors at The Square to ensure total transparency and adherence to due process.

The discussions centred on ensuring the state of the ambulances are fit for purpose. Speaking at the meeting, Dr Owusu stated that based on the Attorney General’s advice on some 30 new ambulances procured in 2016 by the Ministry of Health for the National Ambulance Service, the board is engaging the State Transport Corporation (STC) as an independent body to conduct rigorous technical assessment to assess the state of the ambulances.

Hon Brogya Genfi emphasised the need for due process to remain the priority to ensure every step taken is transparent and meets national standard. He further stated that the government is committed to equip the GAF with the best medical transport facilities. Deputy Minister gave clearance for the Ambulance Service to engage the STC to undertake the assessment.

In a move to deepen regional security cooperation, the US Chief of Navy for Europe and Africa, Admiral George Wikoff accompanied by Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy Rolf Olson and a delegation paid a courtesy call at The Square. The delegation was received by the Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable Ernest Brogya Genfi. The visit underscores the growing cooperation between Ghana and the United States in defence and security matters.

The discussions focused on the pressing need to safeguard Ghana’s territorial waters amid recent rise in maritime crime. Honourable Brogya Genfi stressed the importance of enhancing surveillance capabilities and improving monitoring systems to effectively address emerging threats. He also called for expanded joint military exercises and targeted training programmes to better equip the Ghana Navy for the complexities of modern maritime security.

Admiral Wikoff reaffirmed the United States’ strong commitment to supporting Ghana’s security efforts, emphasizing a shared resolve to promote regional stability and counter terrorism. He noted that ongoing collaboration would prioritize strategic investment and capacity building to ensure personnel are well-equipped to tackle both present and future security challenges.

A 22-member delegation from the Tanzania National Defence College, led by its Commandant, Major General Wilbert Augustin Ibuge, has visited Ghana’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) as part of an ongoing study tour. Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO), Brigadier General Ben Gah, underscored the importance of such engagements in strengthening defence diplomacy and fostering international collaboration.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the theme, “Ghana’s Defence Cooperation Framework: Securing Natural Resource Wealth and Advancing Equitable Economic Transformation.” The Director of Research at the Ministry, Mr Dominic Afriyie Agyemang, delivered the presentation, providing an overview of Ghana’s defence cooperation framework. He highlighted key defence projects aimed at safeguarding national resources, as well as the various operations undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces to ensure the protection of these assets.
In his remarks, Major General Ibuge expressed appreciation to the Ministry for granting their request and for the warm reception extended to his team. He noted that the briefing would significantly deepen the understanding of course participants on defence-related issues and commended the Ministry for the detailed and insightful presentation, describing it as highly impactful on the academic and professional development of the students.
The Chief Director of MoD, Mr Emmanuel Kartey received a plaque on behalf of the ministry from Major General Ibuge.

A delegation from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Department of Feeder Roads and the Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The visit was aimed at presenting a formal document outlining plans for a major road construction project in the Ashanti Region, while also seeking the Asantehene’s support and blessings for its successful ex*****on.
According to the Deputy Minister for Defence Hon Brogya Genfi the document included a detailed pictorial representation of the proposed road, as well as key logistical and administrative arrangements necessary for the project’s implementation. The initiative involves the construction of a 175.7-kilometre, six-lane bypass road stretching from Accra to Kumasi.
He further assured that the government is committed to providing adequate compensation to individuals affected by the project. As part of preliminary activities, military personnel are expected to commence land clearing in the coming weeks, ahead of the deployment of engineers to the site. He added that work on the project is already underway in the Eastern Region and is expected to extend to the Ashanti Region in due course.
In response, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his full support for the project. He, however, appealed for the inclusion of the Sewia road in the development plan, noting that despite the presence of a hospital serving the local population, the road has remained in a state of neglect for an extended period.
