Commissioner-General Touts Technology as a Catalyst for Revenue Growth

Technology and innovation form the bedrock of efforts to structurally transform the Authority and improve the efficiency of tax collection, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, has said.

Mr. Sarpong made this statement while delivering the keynote address at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit held in Accra.

He emphasised the importance of technological advancement over manual systems, noting that traditional processes are often plagued by constraints such as disputes, delays, and, most significantly, revenue leakage.

“We are breaking the bounds of reform through the effective use of technology,” he said, while further highlighting the Authority’s initiatives to leverage technology in its operations.

He mentioned the deployment of Publican AI, a digital inspection tool that supports Customs operations by reducing human discretion, enabling faster assessments, and promoting fairness in import valuation.

The Commissioner-General also noted that the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), which had long been overdue, was launched in April.

The comprehensive tax system, he said, is currently onboarding large taxpayers to enhance efficiency and deliver a smoother tax administration experience.
