NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR CIVIC EDUCATION

Title: Tax Compliance Sensitization Engagement for Beauticians - Ledzokuku Municipality

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ledzokuku Municipal, in collaboration with the Municipal Coordinating Director's office and the Revenue Department of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, organised a tax compliance sensitisation engagement for beauticians, including hair stylists, nail technicians, and make-up artists, at Joteku, First Junction, Teshie, on Wednesday, 6th May 2026.

Mr. Nicholas Atiogbe, NCCE Director for Ledzokuku Municipal, opened the programme by establishing the constitutional basis for civic education and framing tax compliance as a shared national responsibility and patriotic duty. He created an open environment that encouraged participants to freely voice their concerns and misconceptions about taxation.

Mr. Henry Ankomah, Revenue Department delegate from the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, provided a technical overview of the tax framework applicable to informal sector operators. He clarified the specific levies and fees that beauticians are legally required to pay and outlined simplified procedures for voluntary compliance, while noting the consequences of non-compliance under Ghanaian law.

Madam Rhodaline Adwoah Conduah, the Municipal Coordinating Director, delivered the most substantive address of the engagement. She debunked common tax misconceptions, linked tax revenue to visible development projects in Ledzokuku including new classroom units and skills training institutions, and advised beauticians on the proper placement of signboards to avoid incurring government land levies. She also called on participants to maintain clean gutters in front of their shops and to actively participate in the Assembly's monthly communal clean-up exercise.

Madam Fatima Shaibu, Assistant Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, closed the engagement by reaffirming the NCCE's sustained commitment to working with the beautician community and providing the civic education necessary to support their growth and compliance as informal sector operators.
