AMA hands over 8 basic school facilities for major facelift
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has handed over sites to contractors for the commencement of major renovation works at eight basic schools at the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools.
The projects, which form part of the Assembly’s 2026 proposed renovation works, are expected to improve teaching and learning conditions in the beneficiary schools.
The schools are Central Mosque 1&2 Primary, Akoto Lante Basic, Amamomo 3 Ashia Mills JHS, Accra Presby Primary, Aayalolo 1&2 KG and Primary, Amamomo 1&2 JHS, Aayalolo 1&2 JHS, and Aayalolo 3 KG and Primary Schools.
Speaking before the handing over, the Presiding Member of the AMA, Hon. Musah Ziyad said the renovation marked a major intervention for the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools after several years of limited improvement works.
He said it was the first time in many years that such a massive renovation exercise was being undertaken in the schools, adding that Assembly Members had made several attempts over the years to draw government attention to the poor state of the facilities.
He commended the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey and his team for prioritising the renovation works, saying the intervention would benefit the pupils and create a more conducive environment for academic work.
A representative of the contractors, speaking on behalf of all the contractors selected for the project, assured that the contractors would execute the projects to a high standard and use quality materials that would stand the test of time.
He said the contractors were committed to delivering durable works that could serve the schools for many years and pledged that the contractors would put in their best effort to ensure the renovated facilities lasted long and supported effective teaching and learning.

AMA hands over Akoto Lante Library renovation project to contractor
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has handed over the renovation of the Akoto Lante Library to Leak and Seal Engineering Services for the commencement of works.
The project, which was handed over today by the Presiding Member of the AMA, Hon. Musah Ziyad on behalf of the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey forms part of efforts to improve public infrastructure and create a more conducive learning environment for residents, particularly students and young people within Akoto Lante and its surrounding communities.
The scope of works includes demolition and alteration works, the installation of aluminium and glass balustrades, joinery works, plumbing installations, glazing, electrical installations, air-conditioning, floor polishing, ceiling works, the repair of cracks in walls, and general painting of the facility.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Presiding Member said the project reflected the Assembly’s commitment to improving educational and community facilities across the metropolis and was expected to be completed in three months.
He said the library remained an important public facility that served students, researchers and community members, adding that its renovation would help restore the facility to a standard that could support teaching, learning and reading in the area.
The contractor, Mr Vincent Kotoka Agbanu said the project would be executed in line with the approved scope of works and completed within the stipulated three-month period.
He assured the Assembly and the community that his team would work efficiently to deliver quality work, adding that all major areas, would be given the needed attention.
The Assembly Member for the Kinka Electoral Area, Hon. Carlos Mankattah, has commended the Mayor of Accra for ensuring the renovation of the Akoto Lante Community Library.
He said the Akoto Lante Library had served the community for many years, but its condition had deteriorated, making it necessary for urgent renovation works to be carried out.
According to him, the issue of the library had been raised several times at the General Assembly during the tenure of former mayors, including Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah and Hon. Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, but the needed intervention had not fully materialised.
Hon. Mankattah said that although some efforts had previously been made to improve the facility, those interventions were not enough to fully restore the library to the standard required by the community.
He was hopeful that the renovation would be completed within the stipulated period, adding that the reopening of the library would bring the facility “back to light” for the benefit of students, young people and residents of the area.
Hon. Mankattah appealed to residents to support the contractor and cooperate with the Assembly to ensure the successful ex*****on of the project.

AMA appeals for help to trace relatives of Rose Okraku found stranded at Agbogbloshie
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has appealed to the public to assist in tracing the family members or relatives of a woman believed to be in her 60s, who was found at Agbogbloshie in Accra.
The woman, identified as Madam Rose Okraku, is currently in the care of the Department after she was reportedly found stranded and unable to locate her destination upon arriving in Accra.
Members of the public with information, the Assembly said, could call 0241856401 or 0243211345 to assist the Department in reuniting Madam Rose Okraku with her family.
According to the Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, information available to the Assembly indicated that Madam Okraku allegedly boarded a commercial vehicle, popularly known as a trotro, from Kasoa Market to Accra on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
He said upon reaching Accra, Madam Okraku could not identify where she was going, a situation that raised concern and led to her being assisted and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
He said preliminary information gathered indicated that Madam Okraku had been diagnosed with dementia and was undergoing treatment.
He noted that her condition may have contributed to her inability to properly identify her destination or locate her relatives after arriving in Accra, adding that the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development had since taken custody of her and was working to ensure her safety while efforts were made to locate her family.
He urged anyone with credible information about Madam Okraku’s relatives to contact the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the AMA.
He encouraged families caring for elderly persons, especially those with memory-related conditions, to take extra precautions to ensure their safety whenever they moved around or travelled.
