The ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), through Ghana Company 9 (GHANCOY 9), has donated a range of essential medical supplies to the Essau General Hospital in the North Bank Region on Wednesday 10 December 2025.

The items, presented by the Company Commander of GHANCOY 9, Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, forms part of the ongoing civil–military cooperation efforts of the contingent to support communities within its area of operations.

During the donation, Lieutenant Colonel Agbemafle reaffirmed the commitment of ECOMIG to supporting the wellbeing of host communities in addition to maintaining peace and stability.

He emphasised that the gesture reflects the partnership the mission has with local institutions.

Receiving the items, Administrator of the hospital, Mr. Almami Fofana thanked ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 for the gesture, noting that the supplies would go a long way in improving patient care and addressing some of the logistical challenges faced by the hospital.

He described the donation as timely and impactful, particularly in supporting emergency care and routine medical services.

The initiative further strengthened the cordial relationship between ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 and the people of Essau, underscoring the role of the mission in promoting both security and humanitarian support across The Gambia.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a Mission Accomplishment Parade to welcome home troops of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 12 at the 5 Infantry Battalion Square, Burma Camp, on Wednesday 10 December 2025.

The Reviewing Officer and Chief Coordinator at the National Defence University, Brigadier General Emmanuel Opare Nyante, on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, commended the troops for a successful tour of duty.

He lauded their operational resilience and conduct, which he said significantly contributed to the overall success of the mission.
Brigadier General Nyante announced that after the troops’ disembarkation and subsequent period of rest, some personnel would be deployed for internal operations.

He emphasised continued professionalism and excellence during the upcoming duties.

He also informed the troops of recent changes within the hierarchy of GAF and urged them to serve loyally while upholding the constitution. Brigadier General Nyante further advised personnel to exercise financial discipline and avoid unnecessary expenditure.

The ceremony featured the presentation of a citation to the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Godfred Asampong, in recognition of the distinguished service of the battalion and expressed profound gratitude to all personnel of UNMISS GHANBATT 12 for their dedication and sacrifice.

General Superintendent Assemblies of God Ghana, Reverend Stephen Wengam and his entourage have visited the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, to congratulate him on his appointment to the high office of CDS.

During the visit to the office of the CDS in Burma Camp on Wednesday 10 December 2025, Reverend Wengam commended the CDS for his exemplary leadership in steering the affairs of the military, assured him of the continuous prayers of the church and prayed for God’s blessings, strength and divine guidance throughout his tenure.

In response, Lieutenant General Agyapong expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and their goodwill message.

He acknowledged the Assemblies of God Ghana for its longstanding role in promoting national unity, moral development, and spiritual well-being. He highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between faith-based organisations and the security services in fostering peace and stability across the country.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu has on Tuesday, 9 December 2025 shared his leadership insight when he delivered a lecture on the Battalion Commanders Course 5 (BCC 5) held at the Buchanan Lecture Hall, Army Training Command (ATRAC).

The lecture, titled “Leadership: The Chief of the Army Staff’s Perspective”, saw the COAS outlining his vision which includes a motivated, value-driven, technologically enabled, and operationally decisive Army that earns and maintains the trust of the Ghanaian public. He also outlined, the desired end state for 2030, the core drivers shaping Army transformation, operational priorities and the expected role of the future unit commanders.

Major General Gbetanu reminded the course participants that the transformation of the Ghana Army depends on the quality of leadership at all levels and urged them to embody professionalism, innovation, ethical conduct, critical thinking, adaptability, technological awareness and resilience.

The COAS also called for the need to modernise the structure of the Army through capacity expansion, human capital development and leadership renewal anchored in strong institutional values.

On behalf of the Commander ATRAC and BCC5 participants, the Commander of the Army Combat Training School, Colonel Robert Narh, expressed profound gratitude to the COAS for his lecture, describing it as an enlightening and transformative experience that would significantly shape the participants for higher leadership responsibilities.

BCC 5 consists of 21 participants out of which 19 are Army officers and 2 Air Force officers.

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, together with the Service Chiefs have visited the family of the late Major General Joseph Narh Adinkra (Rtd) at his West Land residence to commiserate with them on Tuesday 9 December 2025.

Lt Gen Agyapong expressed his heartfelt condolences and that of the entire Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). He urged the family to find strength and solace during this difficult time.

The CDS eulogized the late Major General Adinkra for his distinguished service and dedication to GAF and the nation as a whole. He pledged the full support of the Ghana Armed Forces in providing a dignified and befitting burial ceremony to honour the General’s legacy and contributions.

The Ghana Armed Forces Health Service (GAFHS) medical centre pool, in collaboration with the Headquarters Support Services Command (HQ SP SVC COMD), has concluded its end-of-year Get-Together and Bazaar at the Headquarters Support Services in Burma Camp on Thursday, 4 December 2025.

The event aimed to strengthen workplace relationships and boost personnel morale, recognizing the commitment and dedication of staff to their respective units throughout the year.

The Guest of Honour, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of HQ SP SVC COMD, Brigadier General Selasi Gagakumah, commended the planning committee for their resilience and determination, noting that their efforts ensured a successful programme.

He congratulated the medical team for upholding high standards of care and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. Brigadier General Gagakumah also expressed appreciation to sponsors and the Medical Centre Pool staff, extending early Christmas wishes to the team.

Colonel Patience Akuvi Dzigbordi Awumee, Nursing Officer in Charge of the Medical Centre Pool, conveyed her gratitude to directors, sponsors, and staff for their unwavering support, which contributed significantly to the event’s success.

The ceremony featured the presentation of citations to retired staff of the Medical Centre Pool, as well as certificates awarded to members of the 2024 and 2025 end-of-year Get-Together and planning committees.

As part of the festivities, a cooking contest was held on 18 November 2025 between the Medical Centre Pool, HQ Southern Command, and HQ SP SVC COMD. Procus Ghana Limited, producers of Kivo products and sponsors of the contest, awarded the Support Services team for emerging as winners.

The ECOWAS Mission in Gambia (ECOMIG) Ghana Company 9 (GHANCOY 9) has donated a newly constructed swing gate and security post to the Barra Ferry Terminal Authority on Thursday 4 December 2025.

The donation was handed over by the Officer Commanding GHANCOY 9, Lieutenant Colonel Agbemafle, who underscored the importance of strengthening safety measures and access control at one of the country’s busiest transport hubs. He noted that the initiative forms part of GHANCOY 9’s commitment to civil–military cooperation and its ongoing efforts to support local institutions.

The Terminal Manager of The Gambia Ferry Terminal Authority, Mr. Bakary Badjie, expressed profound appreciation to ECOMIG and GHANCOY 9 for their continued partnership and their direct contribution to enhancing security and operational efficiency at the terminal. He further stated that the gesture reflects the strong and positive relationship between the mission and the communities it serves.
