🌿🚌 Gibraltar's First Green Bus Stop Roof Unveiled on World Environment Day
Minister for the Environment John Cortes today inaugurated Gibraltar's first green bus stop roof at Fish Market Lane Steps, marking an important milestone in the ongoing Green Gibraltar Campaign.
This innovative project showcases the power of partnership, with funding provided through a generous private donation from the Eroski Group, delivery led by the Gibraltar Horticultural Society and OTWO, and technical support from HM Government of Gibraltar.
The green roof will help reduce urban heat, enhance biodiversity, absorb rainwater and bring more nature into Gibraltar's urban environment. As a pilot project, it represents the first step in a planned programme to introduce additional green bus stop roofs across Gibraltar.
Today's inauguration is particularly fitting as it coincides with World Environment Day. This year's theme reminds us that solutions inspired by nature can help address the challenges of climate change and build a more sustainable future.
For our climate. For our future. Every action is a signal.
What signal will you send today?
By working together, Government, businesses and civil society are helping to create a greener, more resilient Gibraltar for future generations.

Visitors can now experience:
✨ New atmospheric lighting
✨ Enhanced storytelling and interpretation
✨ Refreshed branding and improved security

A dramatic wildlife rescue with a happy outcome 🦅
A male Peregrine Falcon was spotted near Rosia Bay after being attacked by seagulls and ending up in the sea. Thanks to the quick actions of GDP Marine Base officers, the bird was safely recovered from the water and EPRU was immediately contacted to assist on arrival.
After a careful check for visible injuries, the falcon was transported safely to the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Station at Lathbury, where it will receive expert care and rehabilitation.
Great teamwork and dedication from everyone involved in helping protect our local wildlife 👏

Another successful wildlife rescue by the Department of the Environment’s EPRU team 🐍👏
This beautiful Horseshoe Whip snake was found trapped in sticky material commonly used in cockroach traps. Thanks to a quick call from a concerned member of the public, the snake was safely extracted, carefully cleaned, and checked over by the team before being released back into the wild where it belongs 🌿
A big thank you to the person who reported it — your call made all the difference ☺️
Every rescue matters, and together we can help protect Gibraltar’s incredible wildlife 💚
