On May 20th, 2026, The Gambia achieved a historic milestone in its digital transformation journey with the successful Validation Workshop for The Gambia National Enterprise Architecture (EA) under the theme:

“One Government, One Architecture, One Digital Future.”

The validation workshop brought together senior government officials, development partners, technical experts, and key public institutions to validate The Gambia’s first-ever whole-of-government Enterprise Architecture framework, a national blueprint that will guide how government systems are designed, integrated, secured, and managed.

The development of the Enterprise Architecture was led by the Gambia ICT Agency (GICTA), The Gambia Information and Communication Technology Agency, the mandated government institution responsible for leading the national e-Government agenda, coordinating all government ICT initiatives, and ensuring coherence, efficiency, and interoperability across public sector digital investments. Through this leadership, GICTA ensured that the EA reflects a unified whole-of-government approach aimed at reducing fragmentation, eliminating duplication, and strengthening digital governance across institutions.

The high-level opening ceremony was attended by senior government officials including:

In his welcome remarks, the Director General of the Gambia ICT Agency (GICTA) emphasized that the validation represents a defining moment for The Gambia’s digital future and a major step toward building an integrated, interoperable, secure, and citizen-centered digital government ecosystem.

He noted that for many years, government institutions have operated fragmented and siloed digital platforms, resulting in duplication, inefficiencies, limited interoperability, and increased operational costs. The National Enterprise Architecture therefore provides the strategic framework needed to harmonize digital investments, strengthen governance, and guide the implementation of integrated digital public services across government.

The DG further highlighted that the development of the Enterprise Architecture was led by the Gambia ICT Agency (GICTA), with support from the World Bank through the Digital Transformation for Africa (DTfA) / WARDIP Project, and implemented in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the GovStack initiative.

Hon. Lamin Jabbi, Esq., Minister of Communications and Digital Economy (MOCDE), The Government of The Gambia, emphasized that the EA is a critical implementation tool for both the Gambia Digital Economy Master Plan (2024–2034) and the Digital Government Policy and Roadmap. He stressed the importance of interoperability, cybersecurity, data governance, digital identity, and shared digital infrastructure in building a resilient and modern digital economy.

Hon. Baboucarr Bouy, Minister of Public Service (MOPS), The Government of The Gambia, highlighted the importance of modernizing public service delivery and strengthening institutional performance through integrated digital systems and coordinated governance across government institutions.

The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Yankuba Darboe, shared insights into GRA’s ongoing digital transformation in tax administration, noting its contribution to improved efficiency and increased domestic revenue mobilization. He emphasized that the Enterprise Architecture will help streamline digitalization efforts across government, improve integration between institutions, and reduce challenges associated with isolated systems and duplication.

Mr. Emmanuel Niyikora, Programme Officer at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), West Africa Area Office, recognised the Government of The Gambia’s strong commitment to advancing its national digital transformation agenda, as well as the leadership of the Gambia ICT Agency (GICTA) in spearheading the development of the Enterprise Architecture.

He highlighted that the EA represents a transformational shift in how government services will be designed, integrated, and delivered — moving toward a more structured, interoperable, and citizen-centered digital ecosystem. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to continue supporting The Gambia in the implementation of the Enterprise Architecture, as well as in future digital government, infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives.
