From Truth to Trials 🇬🇲

The Government has appointed Mr. Martin Hackett as Special Prosecutor to lead the investigation and prosecution of TRRC cases.
Mr. Hackett is a British barrister with 30+ years of expertise. From prosecuting war crimes in Kosovo to terrorism at The Hague, he brings the international experience needed to hold perpetrators of serious human rights violations (1994–2017) to account.
The SPO will drive a phased accountability mechanism, starting with domestic trials at the High Court and moving toward a Special Tribunal.
Justice is no longer a distant promise, but a process that has begun.

Since 2017, the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) has been a steadfast partner in The Gambia’s journey toward truth and justice. 🇬🇲

From the initial stages of the TRRC to the critical work being done today by the Reparations Commission, ICTJ has provided the advisory, technical, and financial support necessary to keep our transitional justice process victim and survivor-centered.

We are deeply grateful for their partnership and their unwavering commitment to helping us build a future rooted in justice and healing. We look forward to many more years of successful collaboration!
