GFRS PARTICIPATES IN SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF SECURITY SECTOR MEL FRAMEWORK WORKSHOP
The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) joined other security institutions in the successful conclusion of a three-day Capacity Building Workshop on the Security Sector Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework, organized by the Office of National Security (ONS) with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The workshop, which concluded on 3rd June 2026 at the UN House in Cape Point, Bakau, focused on enhancing participants' knowledge and skills in monitoring, evaluation, data analysis, reporting, knowledge management, and institutional coordination within the security sector.
The final day featured practical sessions on Data Analysis and Reporting, as well as Knowledge Management and Learning Systems, providing participants with valuable opportunities to strengthen their monitoring and evaluation competencies through interactive discussions and group exercises.
Participants described the training as highly informative and impactful, expressing optimism about the planned development of a digital MEL dashboard that will improve reporting, coordination, and information sharing among security institutions. They also reaffirmed their commitment to serve as Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) by cascading the knowledge and skills acquired during the workshop within their respective organizations.
The workshop concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony conducted by representatives of the Office of National Security (ONS), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the consultant team, in recognition of participants' successful completion of the training.
This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability, evidence-based decision-making, and the effective implementation of Security Sector Reform (SSR) programmes in The Gambia.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SELECT COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE AND SECURITY VISITS GFRS HEADQUARTERS
The National Assembly Select Committee on Defence and Security today paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) to engage with the Service on key operational and developmental matters.
The delegation was received by Chief Fire Officer Masanneh SK Bah, who briefed members on the status of the Draft Fire Service Bill, ongoing infrastructure projects, operational challenges, and efforts to enhance the Service’s capacity to effectively respond to emergencies across the country.
Discussions focused on the rehabilitation of Serrekunda Fire Station, the need for additional fire hydrants nationwide—particularly in the Foni region—and the increasing construction of modern multi-storey buildings, which require strengthened firefighting capabilities and preparedness.
Chief Fire Officer Bah also informed the delegation of recent achievements by the Service, including the acquisition of firefighting appliances donated by the NGO Starup.oficial from Canary Islands, and highlighted ongoing efforts to secure additional support aimed at enhancing operational readiness and service delivery.
The committee members later toured the ongoing rehabilitation works at the GFRS Headquarters and commended the Service’s commitment to modernization, infrastructure development, and improved service delivery.
Also in attendance were Deputy Chief Fire Officer Yaya Sonko and members of the Senior Management Team.
The visit underscores the National Assembly’s continued commitment to supporting the growth and modernization of The Gambia Fire and Rescue Service in its mandate to protect lives, property, and the environment.

GFRS OFFICER DEPARTS FOR INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON DISASTER RESPONSE AND RISK GOVERNANCE IN CHINA
Senior Divisional Fire Officer Fafanding Kinteh today departed for the People’s Republic of China to participate in an international seminar on Disaster Response and Risk Governance for Belt and Road Countries.
The seminar is designed to strengthen professional capacity, promote international collaboration, and enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in disaster management, emergency response coordination, and risk reduction mechanisms.
During the course of the programme, SDO Kinteh is expected to gain valuable practical experience and strategic insights that will positively contribute to the continued development and operational effectiveness of The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS), particularly in the areas of disaster preparedness and emergency response.

⚽ GFRS RECORDS ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE VICTORY ⚽
The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS) Football Team today secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over City Boys FC in the ongoing 3rd Division Qualifiers Tournament held at The Gambia High School Playing Ground.
After conceding an early goal just two minutes into the match, GFRS responded strongly with an equalizer from Malang Marena before halftime. In the second half, Foday Touray scored two brilliant goals to seal the victory for GFRS.
The match showcased determination, teamwork, and competitive spirit from the GFRS side throughout the game.
The Chief Fire Officer, , the Senior Management Team, and the entire GFRS family congratulate the players and team management on this well-deserved victory and wish them continued success in the tournament.

GFRS OFFICERS DEPART FOR ADVANCED EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING IN CHINA
Two officers of The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services, Divisional Fire Officer Yaya Fanneh and Station Officer Kuti Jammeh, departed Banjul today for the People’s Republic of China to participate in an advanced training and professional exchange programme on emergency response operations under the China–Africa Forum Cooperation Initiative.
The specialised training is aimed at strengthening professional capacity in areas such as emergency response operations, disaster management, modern firefighting techniques, and international cooperation in emergency service delivery.
The Chief Fire Officer, Masanneh SK Bah, and the Senior Management Team of GFRS wish the officers a successful and productive training programme as they represent both the institution and The Gambia.

GFRS Secures 2–1 Victory Over GID in Ongoing ECOMIG Football Tournament

The ongoing ECOMIG Football Tournament saw an exciting and spirited encounter today as the The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS) football team faced off against the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) team at the Fajara Barracks Football Field.
The match was played in an atmosphere of unity, mutual respect, and sportsmanship, reflecting the strong cooperation and camaraderie that exist among the country’s security services. Both teams demonstrated determination, discipline, teamwork, and professionalism, providing an entertaining and competitive spectacle for supporters and spectators alike.
At the final whistle, the GFRS team secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the GID team. Beyond the scoreline, the match provided a valuable platform for strengthening friendship, understanding, and collaboration among personnel from the participating sister institutions.
The ECOMIG Football Tournament continues to foster peace, unity, physical fitness, and cordial working relations among all participating security services.

The Basse Fire and Rescue Station responded swiftly to a house fire incident at Kulari Village in the Upper River Region (URR).
Upon arrival, firefighters worked efficiently to contain and extinguished the fire and prevent further destruction. The incident resulted in the destruction of valuable household items.
The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
The Village Development Committee (VDC) Chairman and the people of Kulari Village expressed their sincere appreciation to the Basse Fire and Rescue Station for their timely intervention and professional efforts in bringing the fire under control.
