President Barrow Receives President Faye at the Banjul International Airport
His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, today received his Senegalese counterpart His Excellency President Basirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, at the Banjul International Airport.
President Faye is on a daylong working visit in The Gambia, featuring a tête‑à‑tête between the two Heads of State to discuss bilateral cooperation and strengthen Senegalo-Gambian ties.

The public is hereby informed that His Excellency President Adama Barrow will receive his Senegalese counterpart, HE President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, tomorrow, Saturday, 30th May 202 6 , for a day-long working visit.
The visit will enhance the solidarity and cooperation between the brotherly states of Senegal and The Gambia across various areas of common interests.

Re: President Barrow Accepts Resignation of Chief of Defence Staff And Appoints Acting Chief of Defence Staff
Banjul, The Gambia –His Excellency, President Adama Barrow has accepted the resignation of the Chief of Defence Staff of The Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mamat O. A. Cham effective immediately, and appoints, Major General Ousman Gomez as Acting CDS.
In his resignation letter dated today, Friday 29th May, 2026, Lieutenant General Cham, said he was stepping down following numerous allegations of misconduct and abuse of office inconsistent with the Office of Chief of Defence Staff.
He thanked President Barrow for the confidence and respect reposed in him culminating in his appointment as The Gambia’s Ninth Chief of Defence Staff. General Cham has also, assured the President of his availability in any potential investigations into these allegations.
President Adama Barrow has unreservedly accepted General Cham’s resignation and acting on the powers vested in him by Section 190 of the Constitution, Mr. Barrow has with immediate effect, appointed Major General Ousman Gomez as Acting Chief of Defence Staff. Until his appointment, Major General Gomez was Deputy Chief of Defence Staff at Army Headquarters in Banjul.

His Excellency President Adama Barrow today received Mr. Mohammed Amine Zariat, President of TIBU Africa, and a delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco on a courtesy visit.
The visit followed the launch of the Tibu program in The Gambia, the first-ever implementation of the initiative in an Anglophone African country. It aimed to highlight their role and future plans to advance sports, foster skills development, improve health, and strengthen communities through structured school programs and community-driven initiatives.
In welcoming the TIBU Africa initiative in The Gambia, President Barrow outlined the central focus on youth and women empowerment align with his government's plans for advancing the youthful population.
The President recalled the significance of sports as a force for peace and social cohesion manifested through the recent Ramadan football tournament.
"Sports keep people healthy, enable them to learn useful social skills and discover entrepreneurship as sports is also business" President Barrow asserts while supporting the idea of a modern basketball court and training for coaches and physical educators across The Gambia.
The President thanked the King and Kingdom of Morocco for according utmost respect and consideration to The Gambia at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Zariat noted that The Gambia’s inclusion was inspired by President Barrow’s commitment to youth development and the empowerment of children and women for socio-economic progress.
Mr. Zariat expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of The Gambia for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the delegation. He assured their continued support in strengthening the brotherly relations between the two countries.
The delegation was accompanied by Honourable Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education.
