NEDI and IOM Promote Sustainable Reintegration Through Business Experience Sharing

On 20th October 2026, the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), commenced a three-day experience-sharing event for supported migrant returnees.

The event brings together beneficiaries to exchange experiences, share business knowledge, and learn from others in similar ventures. Through peer learning and field visits, participants will gain practical insights to improve productivity, strengthen their businesses, and promote sustainable entrepreneurship.

This initiative reflects NEDI and IOM’s continued commitment to sustainable reintegration, business growth, and improved livelihoods for migrant returnees.

NEDI Delegation Explores China’s Technology and Manufacturing Industry 🇨🇳

Today, our delegation embarked on its first expedition with a visit to Transsion Technology in Shenzhen, China, the company behind popular smartphone brands such as TECNO, Infinix, and itel.

The team subsequently visited Han’s Laser Technology Industry Group Co., Ltd., a leading Chinese technology and manufacturing company specialising in industrial laser equipment, automation, robotics, and intelligent manufacturing solutions.

These visits provided valuable insights into China’s technological advancement and highlighted the existing technology gap between China and The Gambia. They also reinforced the urgent need to invest in innovation, skills development, modern technology, and technology transfer to drive national development.

🇬🇲🇨🇳 lNEDI Delegation in China for the Youth Start-Up and Leadership for Gambia Programme

The NEDI delegation arrived in China last night for the Youth Start-Up and Leadership for Gambia programme at the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) in Beijing. The delegation comprises NEDI regional staff from the Lower River Region (LRR) and three beneficiaries from various regions of The Gambia.

The opening ceremony took place today, featuring welcoming remarks by the Director of AIBO, a statement by the Head of the Gambian Delegation, and a group photograph.

The programme aims to strengthen leadership and entrepreneurial skills while promoting knowledge exchange and cooperation between The Gambia and China.

NEDI-VYWoSP Study Tour | Final Day – Day 5 | Dakar, Senegal

The NEDI-VYWoSP Study Tour successfully concluded with a high-level stakeholder engagement meeting at ADEPME – the Senegalese Agency for the Development and Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Gambian delegation was warmly received by the Secretary General of ADEPME. Discussions focused on exchanging program delivery frameworks and strengthening cooperation between NEDI and ADEPME to better support youth and women-led enterprises.

In his address to the beneficiaries, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of long-term commitment, discipline, and staying true to the core principles of entrepreneurship.

To conclude the strategic session, the Head of the Gambian delegation expressed sincere gratitude to the leadership of ADEPME for the warm reception and valuable insights, and extended special appreciation to our counterpart, CICES, for facilitating and coordinating the entire study tour.

Five days of learning, exchange, and inspiration – from farm to processing, to markets, and now to enterprise development. The journey continues back home as we put the lessons into action!

Day 4 | Inside an 8,000-Bird Poultry Farm in Thiès! 🐓🇸🇳

On Day 4, the delegation visited a large-scale local poultry farm with a capacity of about 8,000 birds.

The visit was a practical deep dive into intensive poultry management and how to build an integrated agribusiness system. Participants toured the entire facility — from observing the health and management of the flock, to inspecting storage facilities and learning about both automated and manual feeding systems.

The team also had an interactive Q&A session with the farm staff, discussing daily operations, biosecurity measures, disease prevention, and overall flock maintenance.

The highlight of the day was understanding the full poultry value chain. We explored how poultry farming directly supports horticulture through circular agriculture — recycling organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer for crop production.

A powerful lesson in creating sustainable, symbiotic farming models that maximize efficiency, reduce waste, and increase market opportunities.

NEDI-VYWoSP Study Tour | Day 3 – Dakar, Senegal (26th September)

Day 3 of the study tour focused on agro-industrial value addition, processing techniques, and market-readiness strategies.

In Dakar, the delegation visited Senagro and SONAGOO agro-food processing centers to explore the full journey of agricultural products — from farm to retail shelf.

Participants were taken through active production units where raw materials are transformed into finished commercial goods. Production supervisors demonstrated the step-by-step processes of sorting, refining, and processing local raw inputs, with strong emphasis on sanitation, hygiene standards, food safety controls, worker safety, and efficient equipment operation during high-volume production.

Beyond processing, the tour highlighted what it takes to make local products competitive in regional and international markets. This included modern packaging techniques, material selection, shelf-life preservation, as well as labeling, traceability, ingredient disclosure, and branding strategies that build consumer trust.

The day concluded at the official retail showroom, where the team examined product display, pricing strategies, and direct-to-consumer marketing approaches.

A truly insightful day on turning raw agricultural potential into market-ready products.

Day Two of the NEDI-VYWoSP Study Tour!

The delegation journeyed to the Thiès Region, visiting the vibrant horticultural hub of Kayar to explore community-led agricultural initiatives and on-the-ground farming operations.

A key highlight of the visit was an engaging exchange with the leadership and members of the Kayar Horticultural Farm Cooperative. The session provided valuable perspectives on cooperative management, collective farming models, and the realities of local agricultural production.

The day concluded with a field visit to the cooperative’s farms, where participants observed sustainable horticultural practices firsthand and reflected on how these approaches could be adapted and applied within their own agricultural contexts.

NEDI-VYWoSP study tour activities continues!

The delegation visited livestock farms (small ruminants) yesterday in Parcelle Assainie, Bargny, and Mbao.The team was led by the CICES (Senegalese counterpart) focal person during the visit to both farms. Participants had the opportunity to interact with local actors, allowing them to network and share experiences.

NEDI-VYWoSP Study Tour – Activity Update✓

Following the delegation’s arrival in Dakar yesterday evening, an orientation session was conducted to provide participants with an overview of the purpose and objectives of the NEDI-VYWoSP study tour. The technical team presented a brief overview of the study and guided participants through the programme of planned activities.

The delegation subsequently participated in a welcoming session with their counterparts at CICES. Following the engagement, participants proceeded to the field to commence the scheduled field visit activities.

The National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) today launched a five-day international study tour and experience-sharing initiative in Dakar, Senegal, running from September 23 to 28, 2026. Funded under the VYWSOP project, the delegation includes project beneficiaries, Project Implementation Unit (PIU) staff, and NEDI technical staff. Over the next five days, participants will explore the Senegalese agricultural value chain and network with public agencies dedicated to SME promotion and support. Stay tuned for live updates as the tour unfolds.
