GMA DONATES LIFE JACKETS, TORCH LIGHTS AND HARVESTING KNIVES TO KAAMALO WOMEN OYSTER ASSOCIATION
The Director General of the Gambia Maritime Administration (GMA) Mrs. Olimatou Danso Malang yesterday presided over the presentation ceremony of 30 life jackets, 40 rechargeable solar torch lights, and 40 knives for harvesting oyster, donated to the Kaamalo Women Oyster Harvesters Association through the Maritime Organization of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) Gambia Chapter.
The ceremony, held at the Kaamalo Oyster Landing Site, forms part of activities for the commemoration of the International Day for Women in Maritime 2026, and is geared towards promoting safety and improving the protection of women involved in oyster harvesting and other maritime-related activities.
In her remarks, the Director General reaffirmed GMA’s commitment to maritime safety and the welfare of coastal communities, emphasizing the importance of using safety equipment while working on the waterways.
The donated items are expected to enhance the safety and confidence of the women oyster harvesters during their daily activities.

DIRECTOR GENERAL BEGINS NATIONWIDE TOUR OF GMA FACILITIES AND MAJOR BOAT LANDING SITES
MANSAKONKO, 8 May 2026!
The Director General yesterday 7 May 2026 commenced a nationwide familiarization tour of GMA properties identified for regional offices and major boat landing sites across the country.
The tour started in the North Bank Region with visits to Barra, Albreda, Kerewan and Farafenni, where the delegation engaged local stakeholders and assessed key maritime locations identified for operational and administrative purposes.
The exercise forms part of GMA’s efforts to strengthen maritime presence and enhance safety, coordination and service delivery in communities along the River Gambia and coastal areas.
The tour will continue with visits to the Lady Chilel wreck site in Balingho, the GMA property in Kaur and the Bamba Tenda boat landing site as the team continues its nationwide assessment mission.
The DG is accompanied by senior officials of GMA and technical staff from the Safety Department and Estate Unit.
GMA remains committed to promoting safe, secure and efficient maritime operations throughout The Gambia.
