MONDAY CONSUMER REMINDER

Have you noticed a sudden increase in the price of essential commodities in the market such as rice, sugar, onions, tomatoes, cooking oil or flour? Let the GCCPC know.

Two months ago, a concern was raised over the price of a cup of American rice at Banjul Albert Market, despite wholesale prices remaining unchanged. The Commission intervened, and the retail price returned to its previous level.

The GCCPC does not control prices, but we are mandated to investigate exploitative conduct and unfair market practices.

Your information can help us investigate and establish what is happening.

If you notice a sudden or unusual price increase, call us, tell us the commodity, the market and the location. We will do the necessary checks.

CONSUMER REMINDER ⚠️

BE CAREFUL BEFORE YOU BUY ONLINE!

Before buying anything online, take a moment to check who you are dealing with.
Not every seller or offer is genuine.

✅ Check the seller’s background and reviews.
✅ Confirm the product, price and delivery terms.
✅ Read the terms and conditions before agreeing to a purchase.
✅ Be cautious about paying upfront to an unverified seller.
✅ Keep screenshots, receipts and proof of payment.

Remember, do your checks before you pay or enter into an agreement. A little caution can save you money and stress.

If you encounter a suspected scam or unfair business practice, report your concern to the GCCPC.

KNOW YOUR CONSUMER RIGHTS!

You paid for a service but have not received what was promised. What can you do?

A Consumer Asks

“We completed our two-year programme in December and paid all our tuition fees, but we are still waiting for our final attestation. What can we do?”

✅ GCCPC Responds

When you pay for a service, you are a consumer too. If you have paid for a programme and an agreed deliverable remains outstanding, you may have grounds to lodge a consumer complaint.

The GCCPC can assess the matter and take appropriate steps if it falls within the Commission’s mandate.

Have you paid for a service but not received what was agreed? Report your concern to the GCCPC for assessment.
