Friday March 27th, 2026:

As part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between SME Corporation and the International Training Institute, SME Corporation today (Friday) has delivered the second guest lecture for this year.

The two-hour guest lecture is for students taking up Diploma & Advance Diploma in Business Studies at the Port Moresby campus.

Topics were on Marketing the entrepreneur’s business, Forming SMEs Association and PNG Chamber of Commerce and Digital transformation for SMEs.

The session facilitated by SME Corporation provided students with essential entrepreneurial knowledge.

Tuesday March 24, 2026:

SME Corporation was part of National Women's Day celebrations organized by the National Capital District Commission with the theme: "Let's Celebrate The Strength and Resilience of Women in PNG."

Amongst the dignitaries were NCD Governor Hon.Powes Parkop, Deputy NCD Governor Russel Wavik, and Deputy City Manageress Mrs.Edith Laufa.

They all spoke on women's empowerment.

Friday March 20th, 2026:

SME Corporation has facilitated a two-hour guest lecture at the International Training Institute, Port Moresby campus.

The two-hour session is for students taking up Diploma & Advance Diploma in Business Studies.

The session facilitated by SME Corporation provided students with essential entrepreneurial knowledge.

Topics were on Financial Support for the PNG SMEs and Issues and Challenges of Women Entrepreneurs in Startups.

Another guest lecture is being planned for Friday 27th of March 2026.

Meantime, the guest lecture stemmed from a signed Memorandum of Understanding between SME Corporation and the International Training Institute which was signed last year (2025).

Monday March 16th, 2026:
Garment and Textile Training Program at the Women and Enterprises Development Centre (WEDC) has officially resumed today after the re-development of the centre.

The Garment and Textile Training Program began with an orientation this morning.

Among the more than twenty participants is one male participant as well as two female detainees from the Bomana Correctional Institution.

SMEC TRAINERS COMPETENCY REINFORCEMENT WORKSHOP

Start Improve Your Business (SIYB) Trainers from SME Corporation are currently undergoing a weeklong Competency Reinforcement Workshop.
The Competency Reinforcement Workshop is a capacity building program addressing challenges in Start Improve Your Business (SIYB) administration, trainer development and skills gaps among SIYB Trainers. It enhances competencies and improves ILO-SIYB program implementation quality.
The Competency Reinforcement Workshop will run for a week.
It started today Monday 09th March and ends on 13th March, 2026.

Wednesday February 18th, 2026: One hundred and thirty-eight people have received basic entrepreneurial skills training from SME Corporation recently. The International Labour Organization's Start Your Business - Micro Enterprise (SYB-ME) trainings were facilitated by trainers from SME Corporation concurrently at Tent City in Lae, Morobe Province and Engefa village in Mekeo, Kairiku District of Central Province from the 02nd to the 13th of February 2026.

Speaking to the 107 participants at the graduation last Friday in Lae, the Director SME Growth and Development Division Mr. Nathan Timo challenged them to put into practice the skills and knowledge gained from the two weeks SYB-ME training.

He reminded the participants that they are living in an urban settlement thus they need to start up a small business to support themselves.

Mr. Timo said this in turn helps the economy of the country.

Also present at the graduation in Lae were SME Corporation's stakeholder partners; Investment Promotion Authority, Internal Revenue Commission, Mama Bank and MiBank.

Meanwhile, when officiating at the graduation of 31 participants at Engefa village, the Director Business Advisory and Capacity Building Division Mrs. Diana Guria challenged the participants to build a savings culture.
