NAVFAC Marianas

More than 160 volunteers and over 30 partner organizations joined NAVFAC Marianas and regional agencies this past April to support the Annual Fanihi Count on Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.

The fanihi — the Mariana fruit bat — is a species of deep cultural and ecological importance. This year’s coordinated count recorded 269 fanihi across the islands, helping scientists and resource managers track population trends and guide conservation actions.

From Andersen Air Force Base to the CNMI, this effort brings together volunteers, environmental teams, and community partners to protect one of the region’s most iconic native species.

NAVFAC Marianas, Regional Agencies Conduct Annual Fanihi Population Count Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and regional environmental agencies throughout the Marianas are making collaborative conservation efforts across the Mariana Islands during the Annual Fanihi Count on Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.

Honoring our Critical Infrastructure Support (CIS) team and a few of the dedicated professionals across our NAVFAC Marianas Public Works Team, who keep our installations mission‑ready every day. From supporting essential infrastructure to coordinating maintenance across the island, their expertise ensures our facilities remain safe, reliable, and resilient.

Astumbo Middle School students joined UOG CIS for a hands-on reforestation day at the Achae reforestation site 🌱✨ As part of a cooperative agreement with UOG, NAVFAC Marianas, and AAFB 36 CES Environmental Element, students brought the seedlings they’ve grown in their class and outplanted them into the forest. They learned how native plants support a healthier, more resilient island ecosystem. Through this collaboration, the students explored the site, learned about plant identification and data collection, planted their seedlings, and connected classroom lessons to real-world conservation work 🌱

NAVFAC Marianas safety team earns FY25 CNO safety award for small industrial Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Marianas has been awarded the Fiscal Year 2025 Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Shore Safety Award in the Small Non‑Industrial Command category, marking the command’s fourth recognition for excellence in Navy safety performance.

After Typhoon Sinlaku delayed our Earth Day 🌎 plans, NAVFAC Marianas Environmental Team wrapped up their celebrations today! With our partners at UOG Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant, we spent a few days this week at McCool Middle School to share information with the students!

From learning about endangered bird species and sea turtle conservation to upcycling plastic into new creations and decorating banners with Earth‑inspired art!

Environmental stewardship is more than a mission—it’s a shared commitment to the land, ocean, and wildlife that make the Marianas home.

Officer in Charge of Construction Marine Corps Marianas (OICC MCM) earned the Chief of Naval Operations Shore Safety Award in the small non-industrial category, highlighting a strong commitment to safety across every project!

Through disciplined risk management and a strong culture of accountability, OICC MCM ensured safe project ex*****on while advancing critical infrastructure delivery across the Indo-Pacific, proving safety isn’t just a priority, its mission essential.

"Safety requires consistent input of effort and awareness. It can never be 'complete,'" said Capt. Blake Burket, OICC MCM commanding officer. "At the end of the day, it is not about statistics or checklists, but rather looking out for one another and managing risk effectively, ensuring our command remains ready to execute the mission at a moment's notice."

OICC Marine Corps Marianas earns CNO safety award as a capstone to its mission Officer in Charge of Construction Marine Corps Marianas earned the Chief of Naval Operations Small Non-Industrial Shore Safety Award for fiscal year 2025, a testament to the command’s commitment to safety while executing a multi-billion dollar construction program.

NAVFAC Marianas celebrated two major milestones at Gabgab Beach earlier this month as we bid farewell to Lt. Alex Truax, who served as the FEAD Director at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, at the completion of his tour and promoted our newest lieutenant, Lt. David Polzin.

The Wardroom gave Lt. Polzin a traditional toss into the Gabgab waters with plenty members taking a refreshing dive themselves!
