The Guyana Police Association, on behalf of its Executive Committee and members, extends sincere condolences on the passing of Bishop Patrick Findlay, former Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

The Association recognises his contribution to public service and acknowledges his role in supporting the work and development of the Guyana Police Force during his tenure at the Police Service Commission.

The Guyana Police Association expresses sympathy to his family, friends, and all those affected by his passing, and prays for comfort and strength during this period of mourning.

“Our Officers Are Not Obstacles – They Are Human Beings”: Guyana Police Association Condemns Reckless Road Behavior After Three Officers Injured

Georgetown, Guyana – August 26 ,2025 – The Guyana Police Association is strongly condemning a series of reckless and careless actions on the nation’s roadways that have left three dedicated police ranks seriously injured while carrying out their duties.

“These are not mere accidents,” the Association declared. “They are the result of lawlessness, negligence, and a blatant disregard for human life and for the authority of our officers. Such behavior is unacceptable, intolerable, and must end immediately.”

Recent Incidents

Thursday, August 14, 2025 – Woman Lance Corporal Annastacia Sutton was struck by a motor car while managing traffic at Annandale Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Monday, August 18, 2025 – Corporal Francis Atkinson was seriously injured at Triumph Public Road when a motor lorry’s dangerous protruding load struck him as he directed traffic.

Tuesday, August 19, 2025 – Chief Inspector John Walcott was knocked down by a motorcyclist at Cove and John Public Road, sustaining severe injuries. Charges have since been filed in this matter.

The Association commended the Judiciary for its swift action in addressing cases already before the Court, stating that such responses send a clear and powerful message: reckless and unlawful conduct on Guyana’s roads will not go unpunished.

The Association stands in full solidarity with W/L/Cpl Sutton, Cpl Atkinson, and C/Insp Walcott, offering unwavering support and prayers for their recovery.

The Association is making a direct appeal to all citizens:
“Every driver and road user must exercise care, caution, and respect. Reckless driving, impatience, and negligence put lives at risk — not only your own, but also those of the men and women who serve to protect you.”

The Guyana Police Association wishes to formally express its sincere appreciation to His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, as well as his ELT team, for the recent announcement of promotions within the Guyana Police Force.

These promotions serve as a meaningful and well-deserved recognition of the steadfast dedication, exemplary discipline, and unwavering professionalism demonstrated by our ranks. Many of those promoted have rendered years of distinguished service, characterised by integrity and a consistent record free of disciplinary breaches.

We take immense pride in the achievements of our colleagues who have earned this honour. Their advancement not only signifies personal accomplishment but also highlights the administration’s commitment to acknowledging and rewarding merit, loyalty, and long-standing service within the Force.
