From Solitary Service to a Community Movement: THE JOURNEY OF SIMON TSANG

What happens when a rediscovered passion meets a heart for service?

After his baptism in 2022, Simon Tsang returned to his roots as a hairstylist — this time with a new purpose. What began as one man offering free haircuts in a nursing home has grown into a team of nearly 30 volunteers and more than 50 students trained along the way.

Today, Simon and his team bring care and dignity to senior centres, church hubs, and the streets of Sham Shui Po. A simple haircut becomes a moment of connection, kindness, and renewed confidence.

Simon’s vision is clear: to one day formalise this work into a nonprofit dedicated to free haircut services for those in need.

On 13 November, he will share his journey with us, including a live demonstration, and invite others who share the same heart for community.

After church on their day off, a group of helpers gathered in our kitchen to make Chinese Autumn Pudding.

Chef Eva Chau led the workshop, and the ladies created the most gorgeous autumn puddings, each one beautifully finished.

It was a joy to watch them learn, swap skills and cheer each other on 🎉.

This was our second session with .hk, the student-led group that brings their members together through activities like cooking classes. The two students who started .hk joined again to be part of it with the ladies.

This is exactly what Community Smiles Club was created for: a warm space where a community can come together, learn something new and share their skills with each other.

Is there a group you belong to, or lead, that could use a room like this? It could be:

A room filled with energy, a table full of cake pops, and laughter that lifted the rooftop! 😂

We were so happy to welcome 4HOME | From Their Home to Ours to Community Smiles Club for their very first workshop with us.

4HOME is a student-led initiative that brings people together through food and storytelling, and their workshops give domestic workers a warm, shared kitchen to spend time in together.

Our two expert cake decorators, Regina and Lina, guided the group step by step, and then the ladies took over.

There were wild colours, creative decorations, selfies between every stage and plenty of live videos.

Watching everyone cheer each other on was the best part 🙌🏼

A big thank you to Haru and Elyse, the two students behind 4HOME here in Hong Kong, who showed up during their weekend with so much heart to make this happen. Their parents and teachers should be so proud of them 🫶🏼

We look forward to hosting your group again soon. Can’t wait to see what you create next time.

Where Fashion Design Meets Gastronomy: Create Chinese Autumn Pudding with Chef Eva Chau 🍂✨

What happens when a Paris-trained fashion designer turns her creative eye to the culinary arts? You get desserts that are as visually breathtaking as they are delicious.

We are thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Eva Chau to the Community Smiles Club! Eva’s journey is a beautiful fusion of style and flavour. Driven by a deep passion for cooking and profoundly influenced by French culture, she mastered both the prestigious Disciples Escoffier Pâtisserie and Bakery programs. Just this year, her unique approach earned her the "Honorary Professor Award" at the Majestic Johor Food Awards.

Now, she is bringing her signature blend of creativity and flavour to our kitchen for a special seasonal workshop: the Chinese Autumn Pudding.

This isn't just a basic cooking class. It’s an interactive, sensory experience.

Eva will guide you step by step through the artistry of this seasonal dessert. You will watch a live masterclass, get your hands dirty with partial hands-on elements, and sit back to enjoy the final product with a warm cup of complimentary tea or coffee.

The best part? You won't leave empty-handed. Every student takes home a Starter DIY Kit with all the essential ingredients and professional moulds, so you can recreate this autumn magic at home for family and friends.

From Hotelier to International Artist: THE JOURNEY OF DAVID STEIN ✨

For Swiss-born artist David Stein, the journey from a successful hospitality career to the vibrant world of international art has been a masterclass in pursuing passion.

A long-time resident of Asia and a member of the prestigious Art Students League of New York, David has spent his life quietly creating art. Letting ideas simmer for months or even years before suddenly bringing them to life through bold colours and strokes.

"Making art frees the mind, enriches the soul," David shares.

For him, abstraction isn't just a style; it's a tantalising puzzle, a way to navigate our human fears and darkness, and ultimately, a search for meaning.

Since 2020, Cookie Smiles has been baking with a clear, singular purpose: to give retirees and individuals with disabilities meaningful, paid work and a place to belong. For the past six years, you’ve supported our social enterprise bakery, ordered our seasonal products, and cheered on our team.

Now, in Autumn 2026, my husband Felix and I are incredibly proud to open the doors to the next chapter of our journey right here in Central: Community Smiles Club! 🚪❤️

How did this happen?

We’ve always believed that our space at On Lan Centre should be more than just a kitchen. It should be a resource for the neighbourhood. So, the boys rolled up their sleeves and led a shift to transform our third-floor home into a bookable membership hub.

It is the same building, the same spirit, and the same values you already love, but with a whole new way for our community to gather, create, and share.

What is the Community Smiles Club?

Think of it as your new neighbourhood living room, workshop, and gathering space. Whether you are a family looking for a weekend activity, a freelancer needing a creative corner, or a small society looking to host an event, our doors are open to you.

Everything we do here is built around four main pillars:
