Graduated with a degree of BSSc in Government and Public Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Edward P Y CHOI is currently pursuing MSc in European and International Public Policy at the London School of Economics. Born into a humble family, Edward witnessed the importance of educational empowerment towards ones’ developmental trajectories. During his university time, he joined
the mentorship programme “Boundless Hong Kong” as a Student Development Officer, empowering 40+ outstanding high school students from grassroots families by offering job shadowing and university application guidance. He also initiated various projects on voluntary teaching, model United Nations, and youth empowerment at Geneva, Port Vila and Yangon, serving 500+ youths from all corners of the world. Caring about social development in Hong Kong, Edward joined the HKSARG’s Administrative Service Internship Programme, alongside interning at MWYO and Our Hong Kong Foundation, researching on talent acquisition, whole-person development, resilience, education technology, and vocational education. Apart from educational empowerment, Edward is an environmental enthusiast. His graduation thesis focuses on the relationship between green politics and energy transition. He understands that although the UN Climate Change Report sounds “code red for humanity”, achieving a carbon-neutral lifestyle needs long-term cooperation across stakeholders. In this connection, he represented Hong Kong in two international events organised, respectively, by the Western University and Tsinghua University, and co-created several innovative solutions to promote circular economy processes with peers worldwide. Since 2020, Edward has been working at V’air Hong Kong, a Hongkong-based social enterprise that focuses on climate actions, as the Head of Research and Advocacy, raising social awareness on climate change through newspapers, radio and television. He also aims to facilitate positive interactions with the UN, HKSARG, firms, academia, and societies, by organising several projects on low-carbon local tourism, countryside conservation, and waste reduction. With concrete experiences in the public sector, he was awarded with the “Top 10 Outstanding Youth”, and was appointed to be one of the Kwun Tong District Youth Programme Committee Members by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2021. Edward is 22 years old and from Hong Kong.
