That’s how the HKSAR Government brings talent in, said Jason Chang, the Chairman of the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. Building on strong trade, commerce and investment ties, Hong Kong and Australia are strengthening collaboration in education, healthcare, artificial intelligence and technology.💡 Mr Chang highlighted that Hong Kong is widely regarded as an ideal hub for foreign firms to set up their headquarters. Hong Kong economy expanded robustly in the first quarter of 2026. According to the advance estimates on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) released on May 5, real GDP grew by 5.9% over a year earlier in the first quarter, accelerating from the revised 4.0% growth in the preceding quarter, and marking the strongest quarterly growth in nearly five years. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter basis, real GDP rose notably by 2.9%.
Looking ahead, Hong Kong’s economic growth outlook remains positive, underpinned by strong global demand for artificial intelligence-related electronics, sustained growth in visitor arrivals and robust cross-boundary financial activities. Relatively solid business and consumer sentiment is expected to continue supporting domestic demand.

According to the external merchandise trade statistics released on April 28, the values of Hong Kong’s total exports and imports of goods in March 2026 both recorded year-on-year increases, at 35.8% and 41.2% respectively. Exports to most markets and of most major commodities sustained strong growth.
For the first quarter of 2026 as a whole, the value of total exports of goods increased by 32% over the same period in 2025. The value of imports of goods increased by 37%.
Looking ahead, global demand for AI-related electronic products remains robust and should provide staunch support to the performance of Hong Kong’s merchandise exports.

South Africa emerged victorious by defeating defending champs Argentina (35-7) in the men's final to win the title for the first time. New Zealand continued their dominance of the women's competition, beating Australia 19-14 to secure their fourth consecutive Hong Kong Sevens triumph.

Congratulations to the Hong Kong, China men’s team for clinching the Melrose Claymores title for the third consecutive year, with a 19-15 win over Japan.

According to the full-year data for 2025 released by Airports Council International on April 14, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) was crowned the busiest cargo airport in the world, with cargo throughput reaching 5.07 million tonnes during the year. HKIA has topped the global ranking for the 15th time since 2010🎉.

HKIA has continued to roll out new initiatives to strengthen its air cargo capabilities. The Air-Land Fresh Lane, jointly established by Hong Kong and Guangdong in 2025, streamlines customs procedures and enhances cross-boundary transshipment efficiency. The first phase permanent facilities of the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park are now under development, and expected to raise annual handling capacity to beyond one million tonnes upon full operation.

According to “Global Trade Outlook and Statistics" published by the World Trade Organization, Hong Kong ranked as the world's fifth-largest trading entity in merchandise trade in 2025, two places up from 2024, after the Chinese Mainland, the United States, Germany and the Netherlands. If the European Union is taken as a single trading entity, Hong Kong ranks fourth.

According to the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) 39 Report published today (March 26), Hong Kong’s overall rating increased further by one point📈to 765, maintaining third place globally and first place in Asia Pacific. The rating gaps with first place (New York) and second place (London) were only two points and one point respectively.
