Today is the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr. On this special occasion, Alice Mak, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, extends her warmest wishes to all Muslims in Hong Kong! She also encourages everyone to embrace gratitude, extend kindness to those in need in our community, and to promote the teachings of compassion and generosity cultivated during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Observatory will issue the Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 at 6:20 p.m. this afternoon. Members of the public should stay away from the shoreline and not engage in water sports. Those engaging in outdoor work or activities should also take note of the changes in weather. Please take note of the latest weather forecast as well as the following precaution measures -

Precautions
1. Please complete precautions as soon as possible. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors. Check if all windows and doors can be securely locked.
2. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish. People in low-lying areas should take precautions against flooding.
3. Owing to storm surge, some low-lying areas may have flooding or backflow of seawater. Please take precautions, and stay away from dangerous places.
4. For safety reasons, it is suggested that all outdoor activities be cancelled. Please provide appropriate assistance to those in need including the elderly and people having difficulty walking.
5. Avoid staying in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts.
6. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened or placed on the ground, and complete precautionary measures as soon as possible.
7. Small vessel owners should now complete all safety arrangements and return to nearby typhoon shelters.
8. Small vessels not yet in typhoon shelters should seek shelter without delay. Use heavy anchors and check that all deck fittings are firmly fastened.
9. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

The Observatory would consider issuing the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. today as Typhoon Yagi continues to intensify and edge closer to the western part of the South China coast. Please take note of the latest weather forecast as well as the following precaution measures -

Precautions
1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked.
2. People in areas of exposed to high winds or in low-lying areas should take precautions against strong winds and flooding.
3. People planning to visit Guangdong, Macau, outlying islands or remote parts of Hong Kong should note that changes in weather may affect your trips.
4. Fishing vessels and low power vessels in open sea should seek shelter as soon as possible and be secured properly with moorings.
5. Construction and property management practitioners should make sure that overhanging facilities and temporary structures outdoors are securely fastened, and should take precautionary measures.
6. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

In view there are two recent cases of dengue fever in Tin Shui Wai, the Centre for Health Protection of Department of Health and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have been stepping up the mosquito control measures.
