Celebrating Croatian Statehood Day and Armed Forces Day in London

The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in London proudly celebrated Croatian Statehood Day and Armed Forces Day at the RAF Club, honouring Croatia’s democratic journey, freedom, and independence. We expressed our sincere gratitude to the members of the Croatian Armed Forces, who continue to safeguard our security and contribute to international peace and stability within NATO, while paying tribute to Croatian war veterans, whose sacrifice laid the foundations of the modern Croatian state.

We were honoured to welcome members of the diplomatic corps, British partners and representatives, as well as members of the Croatian community, to celebrate Croatia’s strong partnership with the United Kingdom and the enduring ties between our two countries.

During the evening, we were also proud to present Croatian companies, products, and initiatives reflecting Croatia’s creativity, quality, and entrepreneurial spirit.

We extend our gratitude to Mr Paul Jenc and the British-Croatian Business Club for bringing together representatives of Privredna banka Zagreb, Croatian wineries Dobra berba and Vislander, as well as London’s Magaza Fine Food Shop, where a variety of Croatian products can be found.

A special thank you goes to Ms Iva Belaj Šantić, President of the Hvar Tourist Board, for bringing a touch of Hvar to London and for the beautiful gifts presented to our guests in partnership with Privredna banka Zagreb.

We were also pleased to present UFF Functional Drinks, highlighting Croatian innovation in the functional drinks sector, and Dr. Luigi, a Croatian global brand in medical footwear, represented by Croatian entrepreneurs Mrs Luana Latković Perica and Ms Rea Perica. CTA Communications, represented by Zdravka Škugor and Peter Tanta, together with the Adriatic Motion Institute, promoted Croatia’s excellence in health tourism. Distillery Duh u boci showcased its selection of spirits.

The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in London remains committed to supporting Croatian companies, products, medical innovation, and health tourism in the British market.

London Event Celebrates Croatian Cuisine and Previews New Tourism Campaign 🇭🇷

Ahead of the upcoming tourist season, the Croatian National Tourist Board’s London office hosted a special gathering. The event centred on peka, one of Croatia’s most cherished traditional dishes, with Croatian chef Ante Božikov and British chef Layla Powell leading a live cooking demonstration and sharing insights into its preparation.

Guests were welcomed by Bisera Fabrio, Director of the CNTB's London office, who presented a preview of the Croatian upcoming tourism campaign featuring John Malkovich in the lead role. Guests also had the opportunity to meet Tomislav Anadolac, co-owner of Old Pilot’s, whose award-winning gin has received international acclaim, including the IWSC title of World’s Best London Dry Gin. The gastronomic experience was further enriched by Taste Croatia from Borough Market, which contributed additional authentic Croatian flavours and showcased artisanal products to the guests.

With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Croatians and Britons naturally found themselves discussing football too - what else? The gathering concluded on a warm note, sunshine included. Croatia Full of life

Croatian Researchers Abroad: Rethinking Scientific Mobility & Collaboration

Last night, the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in London was pleased to host the event “Croatian Researchers Abroad: Rethinking Scientific Mobility & Collaboration,” organised by the Penkala Association.

Bringing together Croatian researchers from across the United Kingdom, the evening provided an opportunity to discuss the value of international scientific collaboration, strengthen professional connections, and explore ways of enhancing cooperation between Croatian researchers abroad and institutions in Croatia and the UK.

We are grateful to Dr Filip Novkoski, President of the Penkala Association, and Ms Martina Cirić for presenting the findings of the Map of Croatian Scientists project, as well as to the panellists Prof. Ljubica Fruk (University of Cambridge), Prof. Ira Milosevic (University of Oxford), Ms Nika Balkić (University of Edinburgh), and Mrs Loreta Bertoša-Kušen (Embassy of Croatia) for contributing to an engaging discussion on scientific mobility, international collaboration, and the future of connections within the Croatian scientific diaspora.

Thank you to the Penkala Association, the speakers, panellists, and all participants for an inspiring evening of discussion, knowledge exchange, and networking.

Mass for the Homeland 🇭🇷

On Sunday, 31 May 2026, a Mass for the Homeland was held at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in London to mark Croatia’s Statehood Day, as well as the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and Croatian Army Day. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Ljubomir Šimunović, Head of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London and Delegate for Croatian Pastoral Care in Western Europe, together with Dr Ante Vidović, Deputy Head of Mission at the Apostolic Nunciature in London.

Following the Mass, Davor Ljubanović, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the United Kingdom, addressed those present and extended his congratulations on the occasion of Croatia’s Statehood Day. In his remarks, he thanked Croatian war veterans, members of the diplomatic service and the Croatian diaspora for their contribution to the establishment and international recognition of the Republic of Croatia. He also acknowledged the role of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London in preserving Croatian identity and supporting the Croatian community in the United Kingdom.

The event also featured a performance by the Youth Choir of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London, conducted by Terezija Štimec, MMus.

From the historic formation of the Croatian National Guard in Kranjčevićeva Street in Zagreb to the victorious army of the Homeland War, the Armed Forces of Croatia have grown into a strong and modern military force within the NATO alliance.

We never forget the sacrifice our veterans made for freedom 🇭🇷, enabling younger generations of the to continue safeguarding the peace and stability of our homeland.

A heartfelt thank you to all members of the victorious Armed Forces of Croatia for your service to the homeland.🇭🇷
