On 2 June 2026, Mr. Norafizan Mustaffa, CDA a.i. visited the Mayor’s Office of Budapest and met with Ms. Orsolya Hladony to discuss various issues pertaining to the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Hungary.

On 30 May 2026, the ASEAN Embassies in Hungary (including the Embassy of Malaysia), in collaboration with all ASEAN Student Associations (including the Malaysian Student Association in Hungary – MASIH), organized the inaugural ASEAN Student Academic Symposium 2026.

The Symposium aimed to establish a dynamic international platform for emerging scholars from ASEAN nations to present original research, exchange interdisciplinary ideas, and foster meaningful academic dialogue between ASEAN communities and Europe, particularly Hungary.

During the event, Mr. Norafizan Mustaffa, CDA a.i., delivered remarks on behalf of the Embassy. Malaysia's student community was proudly represented by Ms. Nor Amalina Rusli, who is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Debrecen.

On 20 May 2026, the Chargé d’Affaires (CDA a.i.) met with the Hungarian Muslim Community (MME) Association, led by Dr. Sheikh Al-Qudaimi Fares, Imam of the Budapest Mosque, to discuss potential collaboration between the Embassy and the association.

The meeting included constructive engagement regarding the welfare of the Muslim community, including the Malaysian diaspora in Hungary.

The CDA a.i. also proposed an initiative for the Islamic Association of Hungary to collaborate with Nasyrul Quran to print a Hungarian translation of the Al-Quran for local distribution. Nasyrul Quran is the largest Quran printing center in Southeast Asia and the second-largest in the world (surpassed only by the King Fahd Complex in Madinah), serving as a global hub for Islamic research, printing, and distribution.

On 16 May 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest successfully organized Tram Sarong 2026 in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
Supported by the Malaysian Association in Hungary (MAH) and the Malaysian Students Association in Hungary (MASIH), the event served as a wonderful platform to showcase Malaysia's unique culture and heritage in the heart of Hungary.
Local residents and visitors enjoyed captivating traditional Malay dance performances, with many joining in the choreography, and savored authentic Malaysian culinary favorites, including nasi lemak and traditional kuih.

Pada 16 Mei 2026, Kedutaan Besar Malaysia di Budapest telah berjaya menganjurkan program Tram Sarong 2026 bersempena dengan kempen Melawat Malaysia 2026.
Dengan sokongan padu daripada Persatuan Rakyat Malaysia di Hungary (MAH) dan Persatuan Pelajar Malaysia di Hungary (MASIH), acara ini menjadi platform terbaik untuk mempamerkan keunikan budaya dan warisan Malaysia di tengah-tengah kota Hungary.
Penduduk tempatan serta para pengunjung berpeluang menyaksikan persembahan tarian tradisional Melayu yang memukau serta berkesempatan untuk menari bersama-sama, selain berpeluang menikmati hidangan kegemaran Malaysia seperti nasi lemak dan kuih-muih tradisional.

Strengthening Academic Diplomacy: UTP Explores Strategic Partnerships in Hungary.

From 14 to 15 May 2026, the Embassy of Malaysia in Budapest facilitated a working visit for Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) to explore high-level academic and research collaborations with Hungarian institutions.

During the visit, the Embassy coordinated productive engagements with the Tempus Public Foundation (the national agency overseeing international scholarship mobility) as well as Ludovika University of Public Service and Óbuda University. These discussions highlighted a significant mutual interest in establishing Hungary as a central hub for UTP’s educational cooperation in Central Europe.

This initiative comes at a momentous time for the institution. UTP recently achieved a historic milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026, climbing to 35th in Asia. Now ranked as the No. 1 university in Malaysia and the leading private institution in ASEAN, UTP’s expertise offers immense value to the Hungarian academic landscape.

The Embassy remains committed to fostering these intellectual ties, paving the way for enhanced student exchange and innovative research between Malaysia and Hungary.

On 13 May 2026, Mr. Norafizan Mustaffa, CDA a.i., received a courtesy visit from Ms. Kamilla Balla, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Hungary in Kuala Lumpur. Ms. Balla is currently in Hungary to attend an internal course at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. During the meeting, both sides discussed strategies to enhance collaboration between the two Embassies and facilitate potential cooperation between Malaysia and Hungary. The CDA a.i. also took the opportunity to wish Ms. Balla a productive and successful tenure in Malaysia following her recent transfer from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur.
