SEKALA has extensive expertise on critical forest For more information, please contact [email protected]
SEKALA (PT Serasi Kelola Alam) was formed in 2005 and specializes in forest governance, conservation, community mapping, spatial land use planning, geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis Lab
SEKALA has established a GIS lab, which is equipped with state of the art equipment (including a plotter, GIS software and work stations), qualified GIS t
echnicians and a vast database of spatial data. The lab provides high and low resolution satellite imagery for the Indonesian archipelago and offers a suite of image processing and printing services. SEKALA is able to source, provide, enhance, rectify and process affordable, accurate and up-to-date low to high resolution satellite imagery. Spatial analysis can be used to detect:
Forest cover change
Coral reef change
Erosion and land changes
Suitable areas for agricultural crops, such as oil palm
Illegal logging and forest conversion
Forest fires
High conservation areas. SEKALA’s field of expertise include:
Remote Sensing Image Processing
Digital Photo-Interpretation
Digital Mapping
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Surveying
SEKALA can also provide customized, large-scale photographic prints of purchased satellite imagery. For inquiries and questions, please contact [email protected]
Training Centre
SEKALA provides training and internships on Geographic Information Systems, satellite image processing and remote sensing to various stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs and the private sector. Some of these training workshops aim to initiate discussion among civil society and local forestry offices about data availability, information sharing mechanisms, standards, metadata and analysis. These training workshops also seek to increase awareness about the need for transparency and to mobilize a constituency committed to sharing forest data and information. Other training workshops are more technical in nature and aim to increase capacity to improve data and to do GIS analysis. SEKALA provides training on:
Geographic Information Systems
Satellite Image Processing
Community mapping processes
High Conservation Value Forests
Report and proposal writing
Programme management.
