Russian Mission to ASEAN

🔹 Since its establishment in 2015, the Eurasian Economic Union ( ) has made significant progress in advancing regional economic integration, strengthening its common market, expanding mutual trade and deepening international partnerships.

🤝 remains one of the EAEU’s key external partners. Guided by the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and ASEAN, signed on 14 November 2018 in Singapore 🇸🇬, the two regional organizations continue to promote practical and mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of areas.

🔹 In 2025, ASEAN and the EEC adopted a new Cooperation Programme for 2026–2030, laying the groundwork for the continued implementation of the Memorandum and the expansion of practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

🔹 The ASEAN-EAEU Days held at ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta 🇮🇩 in 2023 provided an important platform for promoting awareness of the Union in Southeast Asia. The programme featured an exhibition, cultural and gastronomic events, as well as expert discussions on expanding economic ties between the two regions.

🔹 Building on the success of the Jakarta event, the sides are considering the possibility of holding the ASEAN Days at the EEC Headquarters in Moscow to further strengthen economic, business and people-to-people links between the two regions.

🔹 Business-to-business engagement has become an important pillar of ASEAN-EAEU cooperation. Since 2018, the annual ASEAN-EAEU Business Dialogue has been held on the margins of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

🔹 In recent years, ASEAN and the EEC have successfully held a series of joint seminars on transport, competition policy and enforcement, consumer rights protection, and intellectual property, providing valuable platforms for exchanging expertise and best practices. Further joint activities in the areas of energy, customs, e-commerce, agriculture and technical regulation are planned to strengthen economic cooperation between ASEAN and the EAEU.

🌏 The EAEU also continues to deepen bilateral economic cooperation with ASEAN Member States. A Free Trade Agreement with Vietnam 🇻🇳 has been successfully in force since 2016. Free trade agreements with Singapore 🇸🇬 and Indonesia 🇮🇩 have been signed, with the conclusion of the EAEU–Indonesia FTA in 2025 marking another important step towards closer economic connectivity between Eurasia and Southeast Asia.

🤝 The EAEU remains committed to strengthening its partnership with ASEAN and contributing to a more connected, resilient and prosperous Eurasian and Asia-Pacific region.

🗓 On May 27th, the 6th -Russia Consultations of the High Representatives for Security Issues were successfully held in Moscow 🇷🇺 on the sidelines of the I International Security Forum.

🔹️ The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Sergey Shoigu 🇷🇺 and National Security Advisor, Minister in the Office of the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. Mr. Tin Aung San 🇲🇲.

🔹️ High-ranking officials from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting. Participants exchanged views on regional security in Asia-Pacific, discussed issues related to the system of strategic stability and arms control.

🔹️This unique ASEAN-Russia platform proved to be an important venue for professional and open dialogue on issues related to regional and global security as well as developing multilateral interaction in combating common challenges and threats.

2️⃣4️⃣ years ago, on May 20, the Russian Federation and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations.

On this day in 2002, the Republic proclaimed its independence and immediately received official recognition as a sovereign state from the Russian Federation.

From the outset Russia welcomed the steps towards independence taken by the people of Timor-Leste at the United Nations, supported UN Security Council peacekeeping operations, and participated in UN humanitarian assistance programmes for the population of the young republic.

☝️ It is fundamentally important that the United Nations played a key role in the country’s attainment of sovereignty. The UN Mission in East Timor became a vivid example of successful cooperation under the auspices of the world Organization, making it possible to resolve the East Timor crisis and lay the foundations of statehood in the territory.

Today, the Russian Federation in Timor-Leste is concurrently represented by the Russian Embassy in Indonesia.

🤝 Over the past 24 years, the friendly relations between Russia and Timor-Leste have steadily developed on the basis of mutual respect and trust. The legal and treaty framework is expanding, cooperation in defense is being carried out, humanitarian and cultural ties are strengthening, and prospects for cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries are being discussed.

Comprehensive bilateral cooperation is successfully maintained at various levels, including the dialogue between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, specialized agencies, and interparliamentary cooperation.

: Following Timor-Leste’s accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2025, cooperation between Russia and the country within the framework of is expanding, with ASEAN serving as a central element of the security and cooperation architecture in the Asia-Pacific region.

: Timor-Leste became one of the 57 co-sponsors of the resolution 'Eightieth Anniversary of the End of the Second World War' joining the efforts of the international community to preserve the historical truth about the course and outcomes of World War II.
