What if investing in journalism was one of the most effective ways to prevent conflict?

When information systems weaken:
Trust collapses.
Rumours spread.
And conflict follows.

Independent journalism, reliable information and informed citizens are among the most powerful tools to prevent crises — and far less costly than responding to them.

Journalism shapes peace.

National Teachers Forum in Timor-Leste 🇹🇱

Photos from UNESCO Jakarta's post 24/04/2026

Teachers are at the heart of every classroom—and every nation.
On 23–24 April 2026, UNESCO, Ministério da Educação, and INFORDEPE convened the National Teachers Forum in Dili, bringing together over 150 educators from all 13 municipalities.

At the center of the forum was the draft Teacher Competency Framework, developed through a national process since 2022. Covering key areas such as pedagogy, subject knowledge, ethics, and community engagement, the framework was shaped directly by teachers—ensuring it reflects real classroom needs.

UNESCO remains committed to walking this path alongside the Government of Timor-Leste, because quality teaching is what makes learning possible and when teachers are supported, every child has a better chance to succeed.
