Jejak Batik Exhibition at Erasmus Huis Celebrates Sustainability and Cultural Heritage
The exhibition βJejak Batik: Because every line of batik carries a traceβ was officially opened on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Erasmus Huis. It was opened with remarks by Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Adriaan Palm and Carrina Lim from Green Batik Pekalongan. Both speakers emphasized the importance of this initiative, which focuses on sustainability and cultural heritage.
Following the formal opening, guests were invited to the Erasmus Huis foyer, where the exhibition is held. The showcase features ten selected batik works from the Green Batik Design Challenge held in November 2025. The ten selected works were designed by batik houses in Pekalongan, which interpreted the cultural relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands. Tri Octiviani from Green batik Pekalongan led a tour of the exhibition, explaining its background and core themes of water and gender. Presented in conjunction with the World Water Day on March 22, the exhibition highlights the vital connection between sustainable water management, gender equality and community participation in preserving cultural heritage.
The tour also featured a technical explanation by Guido van Hofwegen from Resilience, who detailed the innovative water recycling systems utilized in the program. He explained how wastewater from the batik-making process is treated and reused to minimize environmental impact. By combining cultural artistry with these sustainable solutions, the exhibition showed how the batik industry can contribute to better water management and inclusive communities.
The exhibition runs until April 26, 2026.

Embrace the spirit of Ramadan with stories of friendships and diversity! ππ§πΌπ
For our books of the month, we are highlighting the beautiful diversity of the Muslim communities in the Netherlands and Belgium, showing how different backgrounds make our world more colorful.
π "Bij Mij Thuis" by Somia Bakali with illustration by Ann De Bode follows the friendship between neighbors Aicha and Sep. While Aichaβs family is from Morocco and Sepβs family is Flemish, they discover that having different customs and traditions is what makes life fun.
π "Juf, wat voor haar heb je?" by Kamalia Talhaouli with illustration by Natascha Stenvert is a playful and imaginative story inspired by the authorβs own experience as a teacher. Itβs a wonderful tale about identity and curiosity.
Read these books on our βBuku Bulan Iniβ (books of the month) section at the Erasmus Huis library. π
