The main interest of the site is the Sheila-na-gig stone, which has been apart of the mill for centuries. The Sheila is an ancient and powerful female fertility symbol. They are typically found in churches or churchyards. What makes our Sheila significant is that it is one of the three in County Meath and the only one found in connection with a water mill in all of Ireland. As part of the Boyne Valley, we at the Mill are a part of a landscape with huge historic, sacred, and environmental importance. We aspire to inform visitors of the significance of sites like our mill and those like it in the surrounding area to encourage continuing active conservation and awareness. Our aim is to give visitors and guests the opportunity to experience ecological, sustainable and historical aspects of this wonderful building and countryside, as well as becoming familiar with our eco-conscious living practices.
