We recieved a call from a local journalist regarding a distressing case involving an elderly couple residing in belonia, One of the partner is a senior citizen, they have 3 sons who are financially stable yet don't take any responsibility of thier parent's care or well being. Due to the lack of financial or emotional support, the elderly couple has been forced to beg for survival. They have serious medical issues but can't afford the medical cost. The couple decided to take legal action against their children under the Maintenance and Welfare Of Parents and Senior Citizens Act,2007.
We talked with Additional SDM of Belonia to look into the case. The SDM conducted a thorough investigation and gave a judgment in favour of the senior citizens.
Under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 two sons are orderd to pay Rs. 1000 each to their parents and One son who is financially more stable is ordered to pay Rs. 2000 to their parents for their maintenance.

We received a call at the Elder-line Center from Pushparaj Club and NGO regarding an elderly woman. She is over 80 years old and lives in Kailashahar. Her only son is married and settled in Bangalore. Unfortunately, he does not take care of his mother.
Our team immediately contacted the Social welfare and social education department, Agartala and as per their advice we have reached out to District Welfare Officer of Unakoti, and informed him about the situation. We requested him to take urgent action.
After searching for a suitable place, the elderly women was shifted to an old age home in Khowai, Manipuri basti (Khowai-Kamalpur road), run by the NGO Scientific Vision Centre. She is now living safely, with proper food, shelter, and care.
A success story of rescuing a Senior Citizen Lady involves a coordinated effort: an Elder Line connect centre at Agartala receives a call, assesses the situation in the leadership of Project manager along with Team Leader and contacts local government machinery and NGOs. The Social Welfare and Social Education department’s Director then facilitate access to resources, while the NGO provides care and secures a suitable Old age Home .This synergy ensures holistic support, from immediate rescue and medical care to long-term residential solutions, transforming a distressing situation into a dignified living arrangement for the elderly individual.

An awareness program dated 16th September, 2025 on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act was organized by NISD at the KTD Police Training Academy.

Staffs from NHSC Elderline Tripura were present in the program. The team included Project Manager Kamal Gupta, Admin/FRL Vijay K Dhar and Team Leader Debashree Roy.

The program focused on the rights and welfare of parents and senior citizens under the Maintenance Act. The subject was well explained by Shri Bijan Chakraborty, Joint Director of Social Welfare and Social Education, Advocate Shri Vidyut Sutradhar, and Retired SP Shri Nandan Sarkar.

The session was very informative and helped in spreading awareness about the importance of the Maintenance Act in protecting and supporting senior citizens.
