During the 1560s, Emperor Akbar faced a deep personal sorrow—he had no surviving heir. In his longing for a son, he sought blessings from saints, sages, and holy men across different religious traditions. Among the places that inspired his greatest devotion was the sacred shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer. With humility and faith, Akbar is said to have undertaken pilgrimages to Ajmer on foot, offering prayers and seeking divine grace. He returned to the shrine many times, hoping that his prayers would be answered.
Around this time, Akbar heard of a revered Chishti saint living in the small settlement of Sikri, near Agra. The saint, Sheikh Salim Chishti, was renowned for his piety, spiritual insight, and the respect he commanded among the people. Drawn by these accounts, Akbar began visiting Sikri regularly, sometimes travelling there on foot as a mark of reverence.
According to tradition, during one of these visits, Akbar asked the saint how many sons he would have. Sheikh Salim Chishti replied without hesitation that God would bless him with three sons. He then added that the first son would be entrusted to his protection and guidance. This prophecy deeply impressed Akbar and strengthened the bond between the emperor and the saint, eventually leading to the rise of Sikri as one of the most important places in the Mughal Empire.

My Beloved Sikri,
You are so beautiful.
The carvings on your red sandstone walls bring peace to my eyes every time I look at them. The more I walk through your streets, the more I fall in love with you.
People often think you are only a city of emperors and palaces. But to me, you are a city of saints and Sufis(Hazrat Salim Chishti). It is their presence that gives you light, and their prayers that give you peace. Their spirit can still be felt in your air.
Every day, people come to see you. They admire your monuments, take pictures, and leave. But very few sit quietly with you. Very few try to feel your soul, listen to your silence, or understand the stories hidden in your stones.
Whenever I visit you, I don’t see ruins. I see a living city. I see the memories of kings, the wisdom of saints, and the dreams of countless people who once walked your paths.
Even today, you have so much to teach us. In a world that moves too fast, you remind us to slow down. You remind us of faith, love, peace, and the beauty of living together despite our differences.
To many, you are just a historical place.
To me, you are much more than that.
You are home.
With love,
A humble admirer of Sikri

Have you all seen my recent introductory video on Sufism by Syed Faiz Ali Shah? We shot this video at the Dargah in Panja Madarsa, one of the oldest localities of Agra. Sadly, very few people know about the historical significance of this place.
The locality, today known as Panja Madarsa, was originally called Mohalla Madarsa Shahi. Even before reaching the mohalla, the locality, or the site of the Dargah, there is a sacred stone bearing the handprints of Hazrat Maula Ali, which is commonly known as Panja Shareef.
This area, where we shot the video, once had a grand royal Mughal-era madrasa, which is why the place came to be known as Madarsa Shahi. Although no remains of that magnificent madrasa exist today, a Mughal-era mosque (Slide-5) still stands here, along with the famous Dargah of Hazrat Sayyid Amjad Ali Shah Qadri (slide-1), who was an ancestor of .
Interestingly, many renowned Urdu and Persian poets, including Hazrat Allama Maikash Akbarabadi (slide-4), also rest here.

Jaipur ki Ek Khubsurat Shaam ✨❤️…
This is a breathtaking evening memory from my last visit to Jaipur, captured at Nahargarh fort where the view of the entire city is simply stunning. As the sun dips low, the sky lights up and night takes over, Jaipur gets ready to celebrate its beauty.
