: Information and Public Relations Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova underscored the vital role of All India Radio Aizawl in safeguarding Mizo culture, describing the broadcaster as a cornerstone of Mizo identity.
Speaking at a musical concert, an acitivity which is a part of All India Radio 90th anniversary celebrations, the minister said the contribution of the broadcaster to preserving Mizo traditions and literature has been “enormous”. He noted that, in a time when many tribes and communities are increasingly assimilated, there is a pressing need to take active steps to protect one’s own cultural identity.
Pu B. Lalchhanzova further emphasised that preserving culture must go hand in hand with educating others about the Mizo way of life. He expressed satisfaction that many traditional practices of earlier generations continue to be observed today, adding that fostering respect for one’s own heritage remains essential.
Also addressing the gathering, Pu DR Lalropuia, Director of the station and Mizoram Cluster Head, highlighted the history and evolution of All India Radio. He stated that the Aizawl station was established on 8 June 1936, serving as a major source of entertainment even before India’s independence.
Pu DR Lalropuia described the broadcaster as a crucial link between the public and the government, noting its longstanding reputation as a reliable source of news. He added that the organisation continues to play a key role in supporting national development goals, including the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
As part of the celebrations, a felicitation ceremony was held to honour Top Grade artist Pi Vanhlupuii, along with four ‘A’ Grade artists—Laltlanthangi Pachuau, Siampuii Sailo, C. Vansanga and Rualthankhuma Chhakchhuak—for their contributions to the arts.
While All India Radio marks its 90th anniversary nationwide, Aizawl station is also commemorating its 60th year, with a series of events being organised both in Aizawl and across other clusters.
