The government reported over 32,500 drug abuse cases registered in Jammu and Kashmir since 2022, with the highest numbers from Srinagar and Jammu districts. In response, de-addiction services are being strengthened across J&K under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, with functional Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) in all districts. De-addiction OPD services are functional in all 20 districts, with IPD services available in nine GMCs. The Addiction Treatment Facility in Samba, established in February 2024, is sponsored by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), AIIMS New Delhi, under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

District Admin Bandipora Conducts IEC Awareness Programmes under Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan across Panchayats
Bandipora, February 23: Continuing its intensified campaign under the Nasha Mukht Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Bandipora today conducted a series of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) awareness programmes across multiple Panchayat Halqas of the district.
The programmes were organized in Panchayats including Ajas-D (Hajin), Markundal (Naidkhai), Nowgam-B (Nowgam), Naninara (Sumbal), Ashatngoo Ghat (Aloosa), C.A. Khan (Arin), Brar-Gundi Dachina (Bandipora), Bonakoot-A (Bonakoot), and Gund Khalail (Ganastan). The events were coordinated by the respective Panchayat Secretaries in their designated Panchayat Halqas.
A multi-departmental team comprising officials from Health, Police, Education, Social Welfare (DDAC), Youth Services & Sports, JKNRLM, and Excise & Taxation departments participated in the programmes.
During the sessions, Resource persons from these departments delivered awareness lectures and interacted with participants to sensitize them about the growing menace of substance abuse.
A similar anti-drug awareness programme was held at Bus Adda Nusso by the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Bandipora, wherein drivers, conductors and commuters were sensitized about the ill effects of drug abuse and the legal consequences associated with the transportation and consumption of narcotic substances.
The programmes witnessed active participation from local residents, youth, and members of the community, who engaged in meaningful discussions and reiterated their commitment to making their respective Panchayats drug-free under the ongoing Nasha Mukht JK Abhiyan.
