SDPI Strongly Opposes Deliberate Disenfranchisement of Minorities in West Bengal Elections

Dahlan Baqavi, National Vice President of the Social Democratic Party of India, today strongly opposed the deliberate disenfranchisement of minorities in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections through the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. In Nandigram constituency, where the community forms only 25 percent of the population, 95.5 percent of the deleted voters in the supplementary lists are Muslims according to the analysis of Election Commission data. This glaring disproportionality exposes a deeply biased and unfair process.

The pattern continues across the state with nearly 91 lakh voters removed overall and the highest deletions recorded in the Muslim majority Murshidabad district. Supreme Court monitored tribunals have further highlighted the flaws by restoring the name of Congress candidate Mehtab Sheikh from Farakka after the Commission failed to provide any valid reason for his deletion. Up to two million voters stand excluded under this mechanism, seriously undermining the democratic rights of citizens.

The Social Democratic Party of India demands an immediate independent inquiry into these deletions, full restoration of all eligible names before polling, and complete accountability from the Election Commission. We stand firmly with the affected communities and urge all democratic forces to unite against this assault on the constitutional right to vote.

Two Crore Voters Excluded in Uttar Pradesh, SDPI Calls for Urgent Review

Abdul Sathar, National Treasurer of the Social Democratic Party of India, has expressed deep concern over the recently concluded Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, calling its scale and outcome alarming for Indian democracy. The final electoral roll stands at 13.39 crore voters, down from 15.44 crore when the rolls were frozen on October 27, 2025. This reflects the exclusion of over two crore voters, about 13.24 percent of the electorate, following a 166 day process across all 75 districts and 403 assembly constituencies. He said such a large scale exclusion raises serious questions about inclusivity and transparency in the electoral system.

He noted that the revision, conducted as part of a nationwide exercise, initially removed nearly 2.89 crore names by the time the draft roll was published on January 6, 2026, reducing the total to 12.55 crore. Among those excluded were individuals marked as shifted, deceased, or duplicate, while over one crore voters were flagged as non mapped and issued notices for verification. Abdul Sathar cautioned that such classifications often disproportionately affect poor and marginalized communities who lack stable documentation or permanent addresses.

He further stated that although over 70 lakh applications were filed for inclusion and more than 84 lakh names were added back after the claims and objections process, the overall exclusion remains significant. He stressed that procedural compliance does not ensure justice when vulnerable sections may be unable to navigate verification processes within limited timeframes.

Abdul Sathar emphasized that public confidence in the electoral process cannot rest solely on official assurances and must be strengthened through transparency and accountability. He warned that any exercise aimed at correcting electoral rolls should not result in the disenfranchisement of genuine voters. He called for a comprehensive and independent review of the entire revision process to ensure that no eligible citizen is excluded from their democratic right to vote.

SDPI Seeks Probe into BJP’s Alleged Use of Bribes to Sway Minority Voters

Tayeedul Islam, National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of India, has stated that the evidence of alleged bribery involving Humayun Kabir by the Bharatiya Janata Party points to a wider pattern of using financial inducements to secure electoral gains. He said the revelations indicate an attempt to engineer a clandestine deal worth Rs 1,000 crore in West Bengal, including an alleged advance of Rs 300 crore to influence voters. According to the party, such tactics mirror strategies seen in other states, where covert financial arrangements have been used to manipulate electoral outcomes and weaken opposition forces.

The Social Democratic Party of India described the allegations as a grave betrayal of the Muslim electorate, particularly in Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, and Birbhum, where efforts were allegedly made to mislead and divide minority voters for political advantage. The party warned that such actions undermine democratic integrity and threaten social harmony by reducing communities to instruments of electoral bargaining. It also noted that the shifting explanations offered by Kabir have raised serious concerns, reinforcing the need for a credible and impartial investigation.

Highlighting the timing of these developments just weeks before polling on April 23 and 29, the party said it reflects a deliberate attempt to disrupt minority consolidation at a critical juncture. The SDPI has called for a comprehensive probe into the alleged financial transactions and electoral misconduct. It urged voters to remain vigilant, reject inducements, and stand united in support of forces committed to constitutional values, social justice, and genuine representation.

सोशल डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी ऑफ इंडिया के राष्ट्रीय सचिव तैयीदुल इस्लाम ने कहा है कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी द्वारा हुमायूं कबीर से जुड़े कथित रिश्वत मामले के साक्ष्य चुनावी लाभ हासिल करने के लिए वित्तीय प्रलोभनों के व्यापक इस्तेमाल की ओर संकेत करते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि इन खुलासों से पश्चिम बंगाल में 1000 करोड़ रुपये के एक गुप्त सौदे की कोशिश का संकेत मिलता है, जिसमें मतदाताओं को प्रभावित करने के लिए 300 करोड़ रुपये की कथित अग्रिम राशि भी शामिल है। पार्टी के अनुसार, इस तरह की रणनीतियां अन्य राज्यों में भी देखी गई हैं, जहां गुप्त वित्तीय व्यवस्थाओं के जरिए चुनावी परिणामों को प्रभावित करने और विपक्षी ताकतों को कमजोर करने का प्रयास किया गया है।

सोशल डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी ऑफ इंडिया ने इन आरोपों को मुस्लिम मतदाताओं के साथ गंभीर विश्वासघात बताया, विशेषकर मुर्शिदाबाद, मालदा, उत्तर दिनाजपुर और बीरभूम जैसे क्षेत्रों में, जहां राजनीतिक लाभ के लिए अल्पसंख्यक मतदाताओं को गुमराह और विभाजित करने की कोशिश की गई। पार्टी ने चेतावनी दी कि इस तरह की गतिविधियां लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों को कमजोर करती हैं और समाज में सौहार्द को नुकसान पहुंचाती हैं, क्योंकि समुदायों को चुनावी सौदेबाजी का साधन बना दिया जाता है। पार्टी ने यह भी कहा कि कबीर द्वारा दिए गए बदलते स्पष्टीकरणों ने गंभीर संदेह पैदा किया है, जिससे निष्पक्ष और विश्वसनीय जांच की आवश्यकता और मजबूत होती है।

पार्टी ने 23 और 29 अप्रैल को होने वाले मतदान से ठीक पहले इन घटनाक्रमों के समय पर भी चिंता जताई और कहा कि यह एक महत्वपूर्ण समय पर अल्पसंख्यक एकजुटता को बाधित करने का सुनियोजित प्रयास है। एसडीपीआई ने कथित वित्तीय लेनदेन और चुनावी अनियमितताओं की व्यापक जांच की मांग की है। पार्टी ने मतदाताओं से सतर्क रहने, प्रलोभनों को ठुकराने और संवैधानिक मूल्यों, सामाजिक न्याय और वास्तविक प्रतिनिधित्व के प्रति प्रतिबद्ध शक्तियों के समर्थन में एकजुट रहने की अपील की।
