10 Maoists including State Committee Member Sanu Pottam Surrendered Before Sanjeeb Panda, ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations), Odisha at Phulbani.
In a major boost to anti maoist efforts in the state, 10 hardcore Maoists formally surrendered before Shri Sanjeeb Panda, IPS, ADG (Anti-Naxal Operations), Si Amitendra Nath Sinha, IG CRPF, Niti Sekhar, IG Southern Range , Berhempur, Dr Deepak Kumar, IG Operations, Sri Akhileshvar Singh, DIG SIW, Sri Harish BC, SP Kandhamal at a special function held at the ReservePolice Lines, Phulbani.
During the programme, the surrendered Maoists voluntarily laid down their arms and handed over their weapons to Sri Panda, symbolising their decision to renounce violence and rejoin the mainstream of society.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sanjeeb Panda, IPS, stated that the surrender of 10 Maoists including the State Committee Member Sanu Pottam reflects the steadily weakening influence of left wing extremist ideology in the region. He emphasized that sustained operation by SOG, DVF, CRPF, BSF has eroded the base of maoists.
He assured that all surrendered Maoists would be extended the benefits under the State Government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, including financial assistance, vocational training to help them reintegrate into society with dignity.
Nitu, a native of Chhatishgarh is carrying rewards of 55 lakh as State CommitteeMember of Odisha State Committee of CPI maoist. The 10 member maoists have one State Committee Member, 1 Divisional Committee Member, 2 Area Committee Members and 5 party members.
Together they are carrying reward of One crore fifteen lakh fifty thousand rupees. Crores. Altogether they will also receive compensation of One crore 55 lakh 50 thousand including additional cash compensation of Rs forty lakhs.
They have surrendered 10 weapons including 2 INSAS, 2 SLR, 3 no .303 rifle, 2 single shot, one 12 bore gun and huge quantity of ammunition. They will get about Rs ten lakh for the weapons.
We appreciate the efforts of CRPF and particularly 80 BN of CRPF in the surrender process.
The 10 member group was operating KKBN Division in Kandhamal district.
Nitu a native of Bijapur district of Chhatishgarh had joined maoists organisation in 2004 and he was active in Odisha from 2022.
After the killing of Central Committee Member Ganesh Uike in Kandhamal in December 2025 and continous & sustained operations,the maoists were demoralized and decided to surrender & join mainstream. After this surrender, the number of armed cadres operating in Odisha has come down to approximately 25 and their activity is limited to the border areas of Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. The operation will be intensified in the coming days involving SOG ,DVF, CRPF and BSF in bordering areas of Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts.
The function was attended by Sri Amitendra Nath Sinha, IPS, IG CRPF, Sri Niti Sekhar, IG SR Berhampur, Dr Deepak Kumar, IPS IG operation, Sri Akhileshvar Singh, DIG , Sri Harish BC, SP, Kandhamal.
So far Nuapada, Nawarangpur. Malkangiri, Koraput, Boudh, Bolangir districts have become completely naxal free. Odisha Police is committed to make Odisha Naxal free by 31st March 2026.
ADG Panda appealed to other Maoists to shun violence and surrender before police, assuring them all possible assistance as per surrender policy.
