Born in Odisha, artist ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฎ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ง๐๐ข๐คโs practice is rooted in the ancient traditions, cultural heritage, and collective memories of Odisha and India. Through sculpture, he creates a dialogue between past and present, drawing upon myths, philosophies, rituals, and enduring cultural values while engaging both traditional and contemporary materials and methods. His work is informed by personal memories and encounters with classical sculptures, temples, shrines, architectural fragments, folk and tribal artifacts, and the surviving remnants of historical civilizations.
While inspired by sculptural traditions from around the world, Pattnaik remains deeply connected to the cultural essence of Odisha. This connection informs both his visual art and his writings, through which he continues to celebrate and share Odia identity within an international context.
Stone occupies a central place in his practice. For Pattnaik, it is more than a material it is a vessel of memory, permanence, and transformation. Through stone, he seeks to preserve cultural narratives and create forms that resonate across time, place, and generations.

Contemporary artist ๐๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ซ ๐๐๐ซ๐ค๐๐ซโs paintings explore the layered complexities of human identity through a recurring visual motif figures wearing headgear adorned with painted faces. These symbolic forms reflect the โdouble-facedโ nature of society and the roles individuals perform in everyday life.
Drawing inspiration from professions where uniforms and headgear signify authority, duty, or status, Sarkar transforms these elements into metaphors for the masks people wear to project socially constructed identities. Beneath these external personas lies another reality private, vulnerable, and often unseen.
Through bold figurative narratives, Sarkar invites viewers to reflect on the contrast between appearance and authenticity, public performance and inner truth.
