A Detailed Insight

Overview & Significance

Maa Tarini Temple, situated in Ghatagaon, Kendujhar (Keonjhar) district, Odisha, is a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Maa Tarini, an embodiment of Shakti and a principal presiding deity in Odia culture .

The temple's legend tells of King Purushottam Deva’s general, Govinda Bhanja, who covertly transported Maa Tarini from Puri. He agreed not to look back during their journey; however, near Ghatagaon, he did—and the goddess halted there, leading to the establishment of her shrine at that very spot .

Architecturally, it’s designed in the Kalinga style, featuring a curvilinear deul, a jagamohana, and other distinct Kalinga motifs .
