The Department of Biochemistry, Siddha Central Research Institute (SCRI), Chennai, under the visionary guidance of Prof. Dr. N. J. Muthukumar, Director General, Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), continues its commitment towards academic excellence and student capacity building through the successful conduct of a comprehensive Biochemistry Internship Programme.
The programme is being organized with the dedicated supervision and support of Dr. A. Kanagarajan, Assistant Director (Siddha), Scientist-IV & In-Charge, SCRI. Designed to bridge classroom learning with practical laboratory exposure, the internship provides students with both observational learning and hands-on training in the functioning of a Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory.
As part of the training, students are gaining practical experience in all major phases of laboratory investigations, including:
🔹 Pre-Analytical Phase – Sample collection, handling, labelling, transportation, and preparation procedures.
🔹 Analytical Phase – Conducting biochemical investigations using standard laboratory instruments and techniques.
🔹 Post-Analytical Phase – Result interpretation, reporting, documentation, and quality assurance practices.
Adding academic depth to the programme, Dr. R. Ganesan, Assistant Director (Biochemistry), Scientist-III, is delivering detailed sessions on laboratory investigations, diagnostic testing procedures, laboratory safety protocols, and professional laboratory practices. His interactive guidance is helping students understand the practical applications of Clinical Biochemistry in healthcare and research settings.
The programme is further strengthened by the sincere support of the Department Technicians and Laboratory Attenders, whose active involvement ensures effective practical training and smooth conduct of laboratory sessions.
This initiative reflects CCRS’s ongoing efforts to enhance the technical competency, scientific temperament, and professional confidence of students pursuing Biochemistry and allied life science disciplines.
In addition to SCRI, Chennai, similar Biochemistry Internship Programmes are also being conducted through CCRS peripheral institutes, including:
📍Siddha Regional Research Institute, Puducherry.
📍Siddha Regional Research Institute, Trivandrum, Kerala.
Through these initiatives, CCRS continues to nurture the next generation of laboratory professionals and researchers by promoting practical skill development, scientific learning, and research-oriented education in the fields of Siddha and Clinical Biochemistry.
