What an interesting start to the day for Chennai😮

Those thunderstorm clouds which started near Odisha yesterday evening have traveled more than 1000 kms and are now sitting in the sea just east of Chennai. Their associated high clouds are spreading over us nicely, giving a cloudy morning and gusty winds since early hours.

Now the big question is — will these clouds help trigger fresh thunderstorms over Chennai? Or atleast save us from today’s brutal heat spike? Let’s see how the atmosphere behaves through the afternoon.

Look at those intense deep convective clouds exploding over both the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The dark reddish cloud tops clearly show very strong activity, and it looks like low pressure area now.

Meanwhile, the Ghats of Tirunelveli absolutely smashed Oothu, Nalmukku, Kakkachi recorded around 15 cm rains. Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts also saw widespread very heavy rains. This is looking more and more like a classic Northeast Monsoon pattern with strong convergence in the east.

Chennai got moderate rains in many places, while the Delta belt also continues to receive good spells. Summer completely forgotten for now😌

UAC has been bringing rain to Parts of Chennai since morning. Cool Kathiri Veyil continues for TN 🌞☔
